I ordered an air cond. Unit online from Boatersland Marine ("BM"), gave them my information, billing and shipping address and paid for the quoted price fully, including shipping costs of $33.09. I got an order confirmation and an invoice with the "Thank you for your purchase!" note. BM made an offer through they online system, I accepted it by ordering&paying for their product, thus a contract was formed. Then, I received an e-mail from BM, informing me that BM miscalculated the shipping and intended to charge me $170.00 (!!!) instead of the $33.09.
I called the customer service, a lady answered. When I asked her to allow me to talk to her supervisor, her answer was "I am". When I asked her again to switch me to her supervisor, then she did. I tried to explain to them that it is unfair and unprofessional to unilaterally change the term of the contract once it was formed (especially as they were the
one who calculated on their own website the shipping price for their own product), but they, instead of trying to work with me on a solution, kept repeating that "I can cancel your order." "Do you want me to cancel your order", etc. I even
offered to pay them $100.00 for shipping instead of the $33.09, I originally supposed to, but the only thing they could say was "I can cancel your order".
I'm extremely upset. Most unprofessional customer service ever, and worst online purchase I have ever
had. I believe they are probably a "mom&pop" business, who cannot afford (or they don't want to) to keep they word, don't do false advertisement, etc. I regret that I've ever attempted to deal with them. If we'd be in the same state,
I'd take them to small claim court to teach them how a professional retailer is obligated to keep its promises. Shame on
BM. If I would decide to dispute charges on my card after the delivery was made (by changing the terms of the contract
is a material breach, thus the contract does not bind me either anymore to pay), guess what, they would not be happy either. F rating.
