My 19 year old son received a letter in the mail from World Voice Link, Inc. Welcoming him as a new pager customer and that the one-time setup and installation charge of $29.95 and the first months service fee of $19.95 would appear on our telephone bill. They also stated that there would be two names appearing on the phone bill concerning the charges the first name is ILD Telecommunications, Inc. And the second would be World Voice Link, Inc. The letter went on to say if you had any questions or wanted to cancel the service to call their customer service department at 1-800-228-0452.
I called and told JoAnn that I wanted the service cancelled and the $49.90 taken off of my phone bill since my son was not authorized to make any decisions regarding telephone service. She then told me that he had said he was authorized. I asked her if she had a recording to that effect, she said yes and then played it back. The "salesperson" on World Voice Link, Inc.'s end proceeded to ask him questions when he answered the phone. The questions were to state his full name, his telephone number, his complete address and then went on to tell him that if the telephone bill was not in his name or he was not the spouse he could not authorize the World Voice Link, Inc. Service. They did not give him time to respond to the statement but went on to give him a pager number, access code, etc.
When I told JoAnn that I never heard my son actually give authorization during the recording she kept insisting that he had and that the would cancel the service but that we would still be responsible for payment of the $49.90. I then told her perhaps we should contact an attorney or the Better Business Bureau regarding this. Her response was that they would then file fraud charges against my son! I told her to go ahead and do whatever they had to do and we would have an attorney respond back to them.
