My husband and I were planning for our wedding when we posted a
Craigslist ad for a photographer to shoot our wedding. We got about one
hundred responses. We were willing to pay someone for the job, when we
stumbled upon an e-mail from Josh Handverger from Big Shot Digital
Photo.in his response to our ad he stated that he had never shot a
wedding and would do it for free in hopes that he might get hired for
weddings in the future. I spoke with him over the phone and he sounded
lovely so I agreed to have him do it for free letting him know what we
would compensate him in some way. Not necessarily money. (i. E good
reference, a gift card, a small amount of money as a tip) This was okay
with him and he said in an e-mail after sending the photos from the
wedding that he had included a self addressed and stamped envelope that
was for us to pay him if we chose to. We were thinking of something nice
to do for him when out of nowhere he started sending very rude messages
over facebook informing us that he would take us to small claims court
if he did not receive the money "we had promised to pay him". There was
no such promise. There was no contract. I have proof of all e-mail
correspondence. He claimed he spoke to me over the phone and discussed
payment of, according to him, "a 100 dollar range". Originally we
decided to let him take us to court because we knew we were right and
that he would without a doubt lose the case. Upon speaking with family
members I was advised to send him one hundred dollars to avoid having to
take the day off of work, and to avoid the hassle. I took their advice
and got a USPS money order for 100 dollars and sent it to him via
certified mail. I wanted to make sure there was no way he could lie and
say he never received the money. Upon checking my e-mail to make sure
that he had signed for the money, I found that instead of signing his
own name, he had written "U R SO FAT". I am not sure that anyone would
want to do business with someone like this. We were scammed by Joshua
Handverger at Big Shot Digital Photo. I'm sure others were before this
and I'm sure others will be after. I am looking to put a stop to this
immediately. If needed I can provide proof all e-mail correspondence and
all receipts. I can also, provide his "signature" for the certified
mail that included his undeserved 100 dollars. And to top everything
off, our photos are grainy and extremely unprofessional. I do not want
this man to be able to own a business if this is the way he treats his
clients.
