We contracted to have our car picked up in Sacramento and shipped to Lana'i Hawaii. There was a $300 deposit and a contract that promised service for $1200. The contract guaranteed delivery in 4 weeks.
They had our car picked up and we received a call from the trucking company saying they hadn't been paid and that they would put it in an impound lot in Long Beach if we didn't pay them the $150 transport fee. We paid over the phone. Next we got a call from the shipper saying that shipping needed to be paid before the car could be loaded on the boat. It was 4:00 P.M. And their loading deadline was 4:30. We paid $1100 over the phone to get the car on the ship.
When it arrived in Honolulu it was placed in a holding lot because there hadn't been any arrangements made to transport the car to Young Brothers, the only company that ships to Lana'i. The car was accruing daily storage fees after the 3rd day. When we tried to arrange transport ourselves, we were told we weren't listed on the manifest and therefore couldn't take possession of the car.
We called Castle over and over and they would either promise to call back (which they never did), or put us on hold and never come back.
Young Brothers finally took pity on us (WHAT A GREAT COMPANY!) and had us fax the title and notarized statements to them releasing them from liability, and we took possession of the car.
It took 21/2 months and $1700 to get our car from Long Beach to Lana'i. We have filed a dispute with our bank for the $300 deposit vut is has not been resolved.
