I had a mechanical fialure on my vechicle on the way home from town. Was three miles from residence and was stopped by the local police. I was going about 30mph in a 45 mph zone. A bolt had broken on my left upper support frame. Which angled the front wheel. The officer said I had to stop driving the car and call a tow truck. He said he could call and it wouldn't be any different than if I called. I had my cell phone but he said its the same. Well when the tow truck came I asked how much it would be and they said $180. I asked if I had a choice and they said not really because the police had called. I had completely pulled off in an area where we weren't even near the traffic. The tow truck driver said he didn't understand why the police officer had called in on a rotation call. That wasn't explained and I still don't know what that means. It was about 7:30pm Saturday 6/11. The tow was for three miles and took about 30 minutes for load tow and release. He said the fee if I called would have been about $60. I called two other local tow services the next morning (A Affordable tow service which quoted $40 for the same tow), (Ismy's Tow service also quoted the same $40.) It seems so extreme and upfair to be such an extreme price difference between police calling or the citizen. I'm not sure who's should be held accountable for this injustice, the police or the tow service.
