Distinctive Solutions, DSPhiladelphia Sales and Marketing Opportunities-B2B Sales

So I started working for Distinctive Solutions in the spring of '11. At first I was excited because I had been searching for a job for quite sometime. When I went in for my FIRST interview, I was interviewed by George and I came out thinking I had found a good job. I asked all the right questions, for the first interview, and was satisfied with the answers. So i went home thinking I would hear back in a couple days. Well they called that same day saying they wanted me to come in for a SECOND interview the next day, which is weird. So I went in and spent the whole day "shadowing" someone. It was cool, but it started raising some red flags. When we got back to the office, they wanted to do a THIRD interview, which lead to them hiring me. Cool, but weird that it all happened in a three day span.

So i started my "training" and let me tell you, they do not tell you the complete truth! First, you have to be at the office at 7:30 to learn about the business and to train. I am okay with this because at my last position-which was for a Fortune 500 company - we did the same thing. Then you have team meeting from 8:00-10ish, which consist of bulls*. This is one of the things that really irratated me because it consisted of immature games and everything was repeated day to day. After the meetings, you go out to your terroitory. Example: your territory could be an hour away. You have to pay for your own gas and they do not reimburse you!!! This pissed me off because i drive a SUV and it cost alot to fill up. They will just tell you to write it off on your taxes. When you are in your area, you basically go business to business doing customer service checks/sales for verizon. This is when you are suppose to help the customer and close an app, which is where you make your money. If you have a bad day, you could make nothing. At 6:00 pm, you come back to the office to turn in your apps, if you have any, and do a celebration for those to made money. After being in the for more then 6 hours, this was ridiculous and annoying. Then you finallly got to go home and do it all over again the next day.

The people were great that I worked with, but it was funny. Either they absolutly hated the job or they were brainwashed and never had a job out of college. They thought this was the best job ever because you could make an unlimitied about. But what they don't tell you is that it is really hard your first couple months. Back in my final interview, I was told I would make a base salary of $300 a week, plus 20% commission of my sales. Then if i made more than that, I would go to 100% commission. I was fine with this until everyone started saying how you have to make 5 apps a week to even get the $300. They completely beat around the bush. What cracked me up was everything that they were "teaching", I had learned in my sales classes back in college, which were obvisouly a lot better. As I was told one day one the job, "you need to surround yourself with successful people to be successful." I totally agree with this, but i do need a work life balance. They want you to be at work at the crack of dawn to at least 6:30 at night, then go have team night at some bar, or play basketball or go on trips together. Do any of these people have lives??? If you do not go on the trips, they give you s* for not going. Hello! People have family events to attend!

During my time with the company, I was promised I would make a lot of money, but that was not true.By the time I left the company, there were things that just rubbed me the wrong way. Here is my list:

I understand having the dress code being business professional, but when you are in the office for only two hours. Lets be serious. It is not necessary! Also, when the temp in the office is 120, someone could have a heat stroke!

Almost everyday I worked there, they were always interviewing and training new people.

Speaking of training, why do they not have someone do all the training? Instead, someone who has only been there for a few months could be training you.

As I said before, they do not pay for your gas. Need I say more.

They always say how it is the best job out there and they wouldnt do anything else. Well I am sorry, but I would like to have a stable income flow.

It pissed me off how George always bragged about where he was visiting next. Personally, I do not care!!!

I didn't understand how you could become an assistant manager after only being there 10-12 months.

Never understood why they would risk taking some random person out on a second interview, when the background check hasn't gone through.

I know that there were more things that made me mad, but I cannot think of them all. Overall, though, I would not recommend this job. If this is your first position out of college, you should really think about it, research it, and realize that this is a hard job. If you are like me-I have school loans, car payment, other bills, and my parents do not pay for anything - you need to have a steady income and this is not a good job for you! They will make this position sound marvelous, but, honestly, it is not! There are better jobs out there! Trust me! Good luck to you and do not believe their BS!
