I am writing this report not to bad mouth the companies I mentioned or the people that work for them. I want people to know what these companies do and what to expect when you get hired.
A little background on me... I do not nor ever have worked for these companies. I am a spouse of someone that works for them. I'm a college graduate with an education and I work two jobs two support myself. I will call my spouse "X" to keep their identity hidden.
First things first, if you post your resume on Indeed.com, Monster.com or CareerBuilder.com you will most likely receive an email from one of these companies. They are also on Craigslist.org. Most of these posts boast a "growing company" with great opportunities and entry level management positions.
X was emailed to come in for a interview for the trainee management position and was told to dress business casual. He waited with approximately 10 other people in a small waiting room. He was interview by a young man that called him self the owner and expressed interest in X's past employment history. He was also told all the other people in the waiting room are applying for the same position and they will only be calling 5 people to return for a second interview. The entire interview lasted 5 minutes. X had to drive 45 minutes to the office.
So he got a call the same day to come in for a second round interview. Again business causal. When he came in they inquired whether he had a change of clothes. "WHY? You told me business causal so I dressed in a suit." They told him that he will be "out in the field". (please keep in mind that at this point we had no idea what this company did or what exactly X was getting hired for.) later we found out they dress in suits in the office to trick the interviewees. Everyone switches to shorts and t-shirts after the leave the office.
He was gone for 8 hours doing door-to-door sales. During which time the told him he will be driving his own car and they will reimburse him for travel expenses, and that he will be paid hourly once he reaches the manager position. Which should only take about 6 months. The man that trained him told him about all the money he makes and how he's almost ready to be promoted to manager.
This later we learn was all a lie to get X to accept the job. Firstly you by no way shape or form do you get paid to drive your own vehicle.in fact if you have your own car you are expected to drive around all the other people around that don't have their own vehicles. Your "territories " are sometimes more than 30 miles away and then you have to drop all the other people off in your car.
Secondly you only make money if you sell "apps" door-to-door sales 0 commission based. The more apps you sell the more money you make. X did not receive his first pay check until three weeks later and it was less than $100.
You are required to come in the morning for team building exercises for 2 to 3 hours 5 days a week. You do not get paid. Also you are required to go to team night one night a week which is usually at a bar. Very unprofessional.
You are also required to go on road trips. You do not get paid for gas the only thing they supply is a hotel. Most of the time it's a really cheap hotel and half the people have to sleep on the floor.
X was brainwashed by promises of owning your own office and making lots of money with all sorts of people working for you. This is a pipe dream. If you are already stacked with cash and want to work your ass off for little to no money 6 days a week then this is a great job for you.
The people running these offices have no management experience or business degrees. To become an owner all you have to do is scam other people to work for you and sell the most "apps" for 6 months. No experience required.
I loath the day X walked through the door at this company. If you get a call or email from any of these companies do not by any means go in. You are honestly better off working for minimum wage at Burger King.
