Professional ripoff artists, fraudulent billing, refusal to refund credit they owe me

In July my husband and I made the big mistake of purchasing cell phone service through Verizon Wireless. We purchased under a "trial" (ie. Sucker) plan that allowed us to try the phones for a 2 week period. During that period of time we would be allowed to cancel the service and return the phones, without hassle. We had the phones for 2 DAYS and found that their calling range was woefully inadequate, and not what they had told us it would be. So after 2 days, they were returned, and we were assured that that would be the end of that. Needless to say, it wasn't!

On August 3 I received a bill for $95.93. On 8/18 I called and complained and they told me that it was a mistake, and no payment was due. On 9/3 I received another bill. This time our bill had gone up to $321.74! So again I called and talked to Tiffany on 9/15. Again, I was told that this was a mistake and, FOR SURE, this time they'd fix it.

On 10/3 I received yet another statement, this time saying they owed us a credit of $45.87. I foolishly assumed that they would be sending us a refund. When I got my Nov. Bill it was again listed as a credit. I called and was assured that I would receive my credit on the next (December) statement.

To make a long story short, it is now 2/17/04 and I have yet to receive my credit, though I have called EVERY month and have been promised that it would be in the next statement.

Verizon uses every trick in the book to get you to quit calling them. They make it nearly to impossible to get through to them on the phone, by first requiring you to enter you cell phone number (of course we no longer have one so we're targeted from the get-go). It has taken me an average of 20 minutes each time to actually talk to a human (I think it's a human) and that is only the tip of the iceberg. From there, you get shifted to different departments until, if you're persistent enough, you get to the one who finally lies to get rid of you.

After reading the other rip-off complaints about Verizon, I realize what a mistake we made, and I will be extremely surprised if I ever see my money refunded. But I will never stop repeating my story to others and I'm sure Verizon is familiar with the statistics regarding unsatisfied, vocal customers.
