I found this site while trying to find some information about Insight Global, after they contacted me about an interview. Every negative report you've read on here is accurate, so I'll keep it short and sweet.
One, everyone I met or saw at their office was under 30. The person I met with was fresh out of college and I know this because I easily found their flickr account with pictures of their graduation jaunt around europe taken this summer.
Upon walking into the place I saw their unmanned reception desk with nothing but a phone on it, saying to pick it up to get someone to help you. At this point I'm already thinking about the movie "Boiler Room".
I get shuffled into the smallest "conference room" I've ever seen in my life and wait 10 minutes for the interviewer.in the 45 minute conversation we discussed, by their lead:
Mostly my last job which had nothing to do with IT at all and was pure personal curiosity on the interviewer's part.
Their mother's cell phone store, and what phone they liked at that point in time.
What malls had good stores. Lovely topic to ask someone who's been unemployed for a year.
Whether my last IT job used contractors, would use them or be interested in hearing about them. What jobs I've worked at that might use contractors.
Then as I was ready to leave, since this was a complete ripoff, they decided my resume should probably be looked at once. We literally spent 5 minutes talking shop, and when I described the basics of systems administration, I could clearly tell this person had no idea what I was talking about and didn't care, because the notebook they brought into the room had never been picked up once aside from when I gave my old boss' phone number asa "reference".
I've kept contact open with my old boss and when I got home I emailed him to let him know he'd probably be getting a call from this person, but from what I read before the meeting, I was curious to know the topic of conversation. A few days later he did indeed write back and said my name never once came up, but it was the person that interviewed me and they wanted to know what contracting needs he had coming up. Once he said the company did not use contractors at all, the conversation ended immediately.
Since that "interview" the person I met with emailed me once to verify the areas I was willing to travel to and what roles I would be interested in. They told me to keep checking their job postings for something, and let the person I met with know if one grabbed me, but not to worry since they would also be looking for things I specified.
I never again heard from the interviewer, but I did get calls from 3 other Insight Global recruiters saying they just got my resume off Monster.com and wanted to interview me for a contract. Funny, I thought an IT contracting firm would have a database of people already invovled with them. Guess not.
The last call from them was from a lady filling in for the person I met with, saying she's looking at my "file" and asked if I was interested in a job she thought was exactly what I said I wanted. It was 2 hours away doing something I've never seen in my life. That was over a month ago, I've seen jobs in my scope on their site, and have heard not one phone call.
I found a job on my own, but to any unemployed IT worker out there, do NOT get involved with Insight Global. They only want to get contact information from your old jobs so they can sell contracts to them, and they're using unsuspecting college grads too stupid to realize the scam they're involved in.
