For the last 2 mornings, at around 8:00am, I've received a phone call from someone claiming to be with Fingerhut. I don't take calls from numbers I do not recognize, but both times, the representative left me a voicemail asking for me, by name, and saying they had important information about my account, and to call them back. After the second voicemail, I decided I'd give them a call, just to make sure that everything is ok. I've never used Fingerhuts services, or to my knowledge used anything affiliated with them. I checked my credit report, and it shows nothing about credit with them preseny or past. Anyway, I called, and when the woman answered, She just simply stated her name. I wish I had taken her name, but I didn't think to do so. She didn't state that she was a rep for Fingerhut or for anyone for that matter. I stated that I had received a call from this number for the last two days stating that I should call them back regarding important account information. The woman asked for my phone number, which I gave her, and was unable to find anything. She then double checked my name, and could not find anything. Then she asks for my social security number. This immediately raised a red flag for me. I simply told her that i don't give my social to anyone over the phone. She said that would be the only way to pull up my account information. I explained to her that I've never had an account with Fingerhut in my life, and don't plan to. She was persistent about getting my social security number. I just told her no thanks and hung up the phone. I may be wrong, but it felt like it could be a phishing scam, and I just wanted to warn anyone else who could fall victim. NEVER give your social over the phone... Especially when you have no clue who you are really talking too. That's all I have to say. Thank you.
