As the Maid of Honor, I went to an appointment with my best friend to try on wedding gowns and bridesmaid dresses at Elaine's. Upon arrival we waited at the front desk for about five minutes until I finally had to say "Excuse me, is someone going to help us!?" There was a little gather of sales ladies standing over by the prom dresses just chatting away and laughing not even paying attention to the fact that we walked in and were waiting there for someone.
Finally a older lady (probably around mid 50's-mid 60's age) came over and looked up our appointment information. The bride handed her some pictures of some gowns she was very interested in and was told by someone over the phone that they had. The lady immediately gave the pictures back and told us to follow her upstairs to the brides gowns and to take our shoes off. Of course she kept hers on. She wouldn't let us browse through any of the gowns, she made us sit in a little waiting area by the dressing rooms while she went and picked some dresses herself. She came back and tried to have the bride try them on. She took a look at them and realized none of these were even remotely close to what the pictures looked like. So she said something to the old lady and all she said was "Well we don't have those dresses here, they can only be special ordered, but would have to be paid for in advance". Well that would have been nice to know BEFORE you started picking out random dresses that weren't even the same style as my friend wanted!
So the old lady allowed the bride to go look through dresses with her to find some that she liked. About a half hour went by and they finally returned. As the old lady filled a dressing room with gowns, my friend came to me very upset stating that the old lady refused to let her try on half the gowns she liked because she could "simply tell they were not going to fit her". I was in shock that she would say such a thing! I told her to calm down and just try on a couple and if things get too ridiculous we can just leave. She went into the dressing room and she absolutely hated the dresses and none of them were really able to be tried on well because they weren't the right sizes. After she came out she explained to the lady that she wasn't going to try on any of the rest that were in the dressing room and the old lady expressed pretty clearly that she was angry that she had to trapse all the way back to put the gowns back and that it was a waste of time since she didn't even try them. Then... She has the nerves to tell my friend that she would be suprised if she would be able to try on gowns anywhere due to her size!!! She flat out said she was too fat to wear a wedding gown! I was too enraged to even say something to her at that point so we just left after that.
I never got that old lady's name and it irritates me becuase boy would I love to find out.
Well my friend got a gorgeous gown from another Bridal shop that was actually a lot less than what they were trying to sell the gowns for at Elaine's! We all got our bridesmaids dresses elswhere too.
Funny, now my wedding is coming up next year and it's about time that I start shopping for gowns soon. Now this place lost a lot of business because neither I or my bridesmaids will be getting anything from here after my friends experience. Our other friend just got engaged recently, so when it's time for her to shop, she won't be coming here either.
Stay away from here. Everything is about $50-150 more than other shops and the staff is awful! The old lady we had was so unfashionable and rude!
