Sick Boston Terrie

First off, let me say everyone in my family loves the puppy we received. He's playful and loving and we wouldn't send him back.

He wasn't in very good health, however, when we received him. He was bleeding really bad after each bowel movement. REALLY bad. We actually had to use towels each time he went to the bathroom.

We took him immediately to our local vet who did not identify any parasites, but also pointed out that at different stages of life Giardia can be hard to detect. Our puppy was treated for Giardia and Coccidia. The bleeding almost stopped with the medication, but then slowly started increasing again. Our guess is that he didn't get the full dose because he was sick from the plane and threw up the first few times he took it. He's back on the medication right now.

A bigger problem than the infection is the response I got back from lovedpuppies.com. She said sometimes the puppies eat each others poop and get a bacterial infection and acknowledged that our puppy was on Albon prior to shipping. She said he may need some more days on the medication. To me as a consumer, and more importantly a pet owner, the fact my puppy was on medication is something I would like to know prior to receiving him.

It also concerns me that my puppy was given a clean bill of health from their vet two days before shipping him. What kind of vet gives a clean bill of health to a puppy that's bleeding profusely? There's really no way that could have been missed, and even if it was then why was my puppy on antibiotics? This is not a preventative treatment, it's to cure an illness.

The fact is that the puppy we received was sick, and had a history of being sick. We were not informed and the seller didn't seem real concerned. The lady I spoke with seems like a really nice person in our communications, but to me puppies that are eating each others poo and have infections should not be sold to unsuspecting people. The infections should be absent from all the puppies before selling resumes.

Bottome line... You'll probably get a great puppy, but it will likely need some medical care immediately.
