They refused to clear my account one year after I paid it off

Due to some confusions about addresses when I was moving, one of my gas bill went unpaid. I did not get a notice until I was refinancing one year ago. I immediately contacted the energy company and paid it off.

However, after being told repeatedly by the gas company to clear my balance, this collection agency, Allied Interstate, kept telling me they have received nothing from the gas company.

Everytime I call them, they would tell me something different. One time they said, they could not find my account; Another time they said they do not handle this client any more; One time I conferenced the rep from the Gas company to one of their rep (named Kelly), even though the Gas company rep was telling her I paid off my account, she refused to clear my account. She said we need to talk to client services department, but she refused to transfer us while I had the Gas company rep on the phone.

My attorney said there is an opportunity for a class action law suit here. I am wondering if anyone else had been abused by this company, and would like to get in touch.
