Mark Mann, Yarny Goodness, Yarn Goddess, pjyarngoddess Breach of contract, non-payment, non-communication

Pam very enthusiastically solicited my goods for her online consignment shop and Sock Summit 2009. Little did I realize that my goods would drop into a black hole for months. I finally did receive part of my stock back, but have not heard anything from either Pam or her husband regarding the monies owed for the missing stock.

I heard nothing from Pam after Sock Summit that I didn't initiate or find in public forums. Vague ranting about people threatening her with the police and calling her a thief. The injustice of unreasonable expectations which was apparently our belief that she should have contacted us within weeks of her return from the convention, especially considering how more than a month had gone by without a single word. How poorly she had done at Sock Summit despite her own assertions of netting $6,000 according to her blog. How there were some ungenerous b* who were only in it for the profit and didn't appreciate her generosity in taking our goods to SS09 and were now out to get her and smear her name to all and sundry (smearing I have never seen). And also how everyone was expecting her to pay the postage for the return of their unsold stock, which was unfair even though that was one of the terms of her own contract.

When I did manage to get a response, she clearly didn't remember who I was. This did not inspire confidence. I was pleasant and reminded her that I had agreed to have my SS09 stock rolled over into her shop for the terms of the contract, one more month at that point. I also offered to pay the postage for the return of my stock, despite the terms of the contract.

She never reopened her shop and I heard nothing more from her. I learned from a Ravelry post of hers that she had decided to close her business and not reopen her online shop. I managed to find her husband's email address and send him a request for the return of my stock. I was pleasant as well to him, and straightforward.

He requested a list of the stock, claiming no packing slips. I re-sent the packing slips and identifying information and I eventually did receive most of my stock back. I calculated the cost of the missing pieces, subtracted the consignment fee and the shipping I had promised to pay, and emailed Mark again with the figures. I have never heard from them again.

I'm one of the lucky ones. I received most of my goods back after a lot of inquiry, and aside from smelling dusty they were all right. But I have never worked with such unprofessional, careless, and unethical people before in my life. However much she attempts to spin this, this was never a favor. This was a business transaction and she has been in breach of the terms of a contract she wrote. I doubt I will ever see the money owed to me, and after what I've seen of her I have no doubt that that doesn't bother her one bit.
