Complaint / Review
Sprint - Earthlink
Lies and theft out in the open, to thousands of people - where is the justice?

My wife and I recently moved and set up phone service with Sprint at our new home. (Sprint being the only provider we are able to find in this area) We also signed up for DSL with the through Earthlink.

I was personally told by the sales person that my bill (phone internet, as we use calling cards for long distance) would be a maximum of $60 a month. "And after taxes?" I asked. "After taxes, it'll be no more than $70 a month."

I was told my first bill would be around $120. I recieved my first bill for $221. I called, was hung up on, and called again. I finally talked to a guy who made a bunch of adjustments to my bill (for a wealth of things we were not informed of), bringing it down to $140. I said, "fine, thanks, I was still lied to, but thanks." We paid Sprint every dime we owed after the adjustments.

We found out that the sales rep reglected to tell us that if we cancel our DSL before one year, that we owe earthlink $150. (learned that through earthlink.) This is the first time I heard the word 'contract' to which i never agreed, or signed.

Anyway, our second bill came for $134! We found out that the rep failed to make all the adjustments he claimed to have made. Our 'Current Monthly Charges' amounted to $86, not 70. The rest was carried over from our last bill, which we 'neglected to fully pay'.

We wrote customer service an email describing our situation, and well after 24 hours there is no response. Alas, there are more to come.

I've had this service for a little more than 2 months, and I already want to get as far away from them as possible. They did this in the military as well. Sprint has a contract with Ft. Eustis to be the SOLE PROVIDER of service for the base barracks. They offer P O O R line quality, P O O R service, and at every turn (especially with cell phones) take wicked advantage of soldiers who are young and don't know what's going on.

I would be fine with paying 70 buck a month for DSL and phone service. All this extra JUNK that Sprint throws in to complicate matters and steal from people, I will do without. If they can't get something straight, I'll get FCC involved. Maybe they can call a foul when they see one.
