Buyer beware! My husband and I applied to adopt an English Cream Golden Retriever from this breeder, when the man phoned us this morning he didn't say who he was he just started bombarding us with all these questions. He acted like some prosecutor interrogating us!
When my husband gave me the phone, all this man talked about was this NuVet pet supplement he sold and whether or not we wanted to learn about dog cancer. Being that we have 3 dogs 2 of them that are older, I was interested to learn more about it.
When I asked this man questions back about the product he was hesitant to converse about it, he just kept saying I needed to be in front of his website but, I wasn't near a computer. He also didn't seem to like the questions we had about the product. Attnetion Breeders you might have been interviewing us - but were interviewing you too! He seems more of a NuVet salesman than a breeder.
Finally, I had to ask the man if he had any other questions for us (in order to move the conversation along), for a time we seemed to be getting along well, but then he asked us where the Puppy would sleep. I didn't realize how specific this question was! When I told him we have a specific bedroom for our dogs where we have their cots and playtoys and that the dogs have full run of the house and are welcome to sleep anywhere - he became irritated and said he didn't like my answer. I was a little confused to say the least. Apparently, he literally wanted to know where the puppy would sleep, at night when everyone else was sleeping. He didn't say that! When I tried to explain to him I misunderstood the question he said "it was a very simple question and on the web application!" Again, not near a computer! When I told him our dogs sleep in our room with us AT NIGHT and that our other golden slept with our son he acutally insinuated that we were being dishonest somehow and then threw my answers back in face just like a lawyer! Then he kept rambling on and on and you couldn't get a word in edge wise. I was extremely upset at this point, I mean who wants to be called a liar first thing in the morning or at all for that matter! I told him I didn't appreciate being interrogated like an Attorney and hung up the phone. A horrible experience.
This breeder if he's not a lawyer, he should be one! His barrage of questions WERE presecutorial and he gave no time to answer, he's very difficult to converse with and approaches adoptive families as though we're not good enough until proven worthy another backwards Judicial characteristic. He actually questioned our love for our Fur-kids that we already have!
I was told there were breeders out there that were somewhat overbearing and he was in every sense of the word over-bearing, but honestly, if he loves his dogs so much he didn't mention them once - not their breeding or lineage, his pride of ownership. Nothing. ALL he talked about was the NuVet wafer and dogs getting cancer. You can't adopt this breeder's dogs UNLESS you agree to buy the NuVet wafer from HIM - yes him! You can buy NuVet anywhere online btw. According to him these wafers are a great supplement and cancer preventative. Yet, he only gives a 90 day Health guarantee on the pups he breeds from the dogs who take the supplements! Other breeders give a year.
He also didn't like that fact that we fed our dogs Halo, a dog food that is made of human grade food, the same human grade nutrients found in these supplements. I'm not saying you shouldn't buy one of these beautiful dogs from this breeder, because they are so pretty. But be prepared for the rudest interrogation and some very strict rules of ownership IF you get that far!
When we adopted our first Golden a year and a half ago, the breeder was wonderful, she asked us all kinds of questions about our family and told us every bit of lineage and history of her Champion dogs. She didn't try to sell us supplements but, she recommended a proper diet and lot's of love. This guy never mentioned anything but NuVet.
It's important to remember breeders aren't just interviewing you - YOU need to interview them and figure out if they are someone you can work with and most importantly if you like their breeder ethics. I never got to ask questions about his dogs, after 30 minutes on the phone my husband and I were upset and he was still talking about NuVet.
Be aware if you apply to this breeder. One other thing, if you ever find a breeder that say's they breed for the love of the Animal - RUN!
