Complaint / Review
Dillards Department Store
Bathroom privileges

I wanted to write directly to Dillards Dept. Store about an incident that happened in their store this evening but since there are no email addresses to corporate offices, I am forced to give this complaint to the general public.

I am an elderly woman who is required to occasionally use a restroom. Today at 6 P.M.in the Dillards Store in Stones River Mall in Murfreesboro TN, (side note: the bathroom is on the second floor in the far corner and there is only one bathroom) I went to use the restroom and the janitor was cleaning the room. Two people were in line to get in so I thought he must almost be finished. They stood there (twitching in agony) while he puttered around acting like he was king of the restroom. After I joined the line, another woman with a baby came. He pulled his cart aside (we thought he was done) when into a nearby closet and came back to the room adding toilet paper (a necessary article I do admit) and went about putting them in all the stalls. He returned pulled the cart aside again and went for more. This dance of his went on for approximately 15 minutes. The lines were getting longer and I couldn't wait any longer.

I went to the manager to complain (of course he was not in) and left a message at the courtesy desk. The woman didn't even bother to write it down. I left the store in agony hoping I would be able to make it to the other side of the mall and get relief. This may sound amusing but it was a control issue on the part of this janitor. He held all these women at bay for longer than it would take most of us to clean the room and he would not leave. The women never was rude to him or inquired how much longer, they politely waited. I feel that Dillards has no regard for the public or their workers and this man could have done his cleanup after the store was closed. What is happening to this world when the customer is never given the courtesy that their buying power allows these stores to stay open? I feel that this man should be given some rules about keeping people waiting. I talked with a clerk as I was leaving and she said he had been there about 30 minutes before I got there and wouldn't leave so people could go to the bathroom.

I would love to see this gentleman (and I use the term loosely) fired for incompetence and for abuse of women. This is an uncalled for situation and Dillards is responsible for this abuse. As a janitor, he found power in making these people wait for his work to be finished. I have been in numerous stores where the janitor will leave the room allowing the customer courtesy and then complete the job. Since there is only this one inconvenient bathroom in the store, one would think Dillards would have a plan in place for an occurence such as this.

This is my complaint. Since I have no where to send it at the corporate offices, I will post online and hope that someone will see it. Thanks.
