A few years ago I hooked up a new phone line at my new apartment. Since the bill was in my name and I was going to have a roommate, I asked to have no long distance at all on my phone, and also to block all 1 900 #'s. The customer service rep said ok and I then had my service installed.
Well soon after my phone was hooked up ameritech kept calling my house to hook up long distance. I repeately refused, I have free long distance on my cell phone why would I want their shitty long distance??? They kept calling!!! I was like they have your name on a list to keep bothering them until they sign up for it.
Anyway thats not the worst of it. A few months later I got my phone bill and noticed $1000.00 of charges for phone sex chat lines. I was outraged. Of course it was the stupid roomates fault, (which of course he denied) but did I not tell the customer service rep that I wanted those blocked? I called ameritech and told them I wanted those charges taken off becuase I had requested when I hooked up my service that those calls would be blocked. And the stupid rep said there was nothing like that on my phone line, and had the nerve to tell me to pick better roomates!!! I then told that sob that i wanted the block put on my phone, and that I was disputing the charges.
So now I was in a big fight with the creep roommate trying to kick him out of the house. And to make matters worse, when I get my next phone bill, they never blocked anything after I made that second call! My phone bill was now at $2000 worth of charges for calls that should of been blocked. I called back ameritech, got hung up on after waiting a half hour on the phone, then called back again and the rep on the phone said there wasn't any blocks on my phone and that it would have to be researched blah blah blah, I told him to disconnect the phone, and tell my what the final balance of the bill was minus the phone sex calls.
MY service was then disconnected, the roomate finally moved out and I moved out also. I paid ameritech the balance of the phone bill, but not the $2000 worth of charges.
Then I'm getting collection letters from to pay that stupid bill, I called and disputed again with the collection agency.
Well anyway, after one year, and no contact with ameritech, the charges suddenly were gone off my credit report, so they must of finally done their researching and realized they were wrong, and that the bill was their fault. But they never had the decency to let me know what was going on or updating me on the charges.
Lousy rude customer service reps on the phone!!! They don't pay attention to customer requests! And cuased me so much stress over my ruined credit for that year long period and that stupid phone bill! I hate ameritech, and wish there were other phone companies beside them.
