On April 30 I was involved in an accident with a Progressive Insured that ran a red light while talking on her phone. I was unaware that my Insurance had canceled at 12:01 the night before until it was too late. The police report States that no-one was at fault. There was an eye-witness, but she was my finance's step cousin so Progressive said she was a biased witness. (I have talked to her a total of ten times in 9 years and she is a preacher's wife so I don't think she would lie.)
Progressive then states that we are responsible and turns our debt over to Insurex for collections.insurex calls my Fiance (not Me) and demands he pay them 2000 dollars immediately or they will suspend both of our licenses. We have asked numerous times for something in writing stating that they were who they said they were and didn't receive anything till recently. After my fiance paid them. He wasn't even involved in the accident, but the car is registered to him.
They have threatened me and my Fiances driver's licenses. They have used foul languages at me over the Phone. They have also made other threats such as;they have told me that if my 2 young children wouldn't be quiet that they know were we live and that they would come make them be quiet. They call as early as 6:00 A.M. And as late as 10:30 P.M. They are very rude and obnoxious when they call.
They leave voice mails saying contact Mrs. Hines immediately or action will be taken against your licenses. We told them we can only afford to pay $20 a month, they say that that this is not good enough in their most recent communication by mail they say we have agreed to pay $100.00 a month. Which is impossible we are college students and my fiance's unemployment is our only source of income now, due to them calling my cell while I was at work resulting in my termination.
I have also came to the understanding that they originally broke the law by not sending us information asking if we dispute the validity of this debt within the first thirty days.
These people have caused us to also lose our vehicle, the $2000 we sent them was our car payments and insurance money for this semester: along with other bills which we have been fortunate enough to make payment arrangements on. Something needs to be done about this collection agency and ones like it!!! Especially ones that threaten small children.
