Afterhaving sold heavy machinery through an ExFactory auction, I ended up having todeal with www.freightquote.com in order to ship aDiehl lathe to Central City Millwork, in New Orleans, simply because THAT company was using their services.By the way, ExFactory & Central City Millwork are blameless in this ordeal
Due to theheavy weight of the Diehl lathe (over 6000lbs), I had to use a rigging firm inorder to move it out of the shop. Since theytypically charge $200/hr, for a minimum of 4hrs, I told their representativeRenee (ext# 1581), that picking multiple machines would cost me the same aspicking up one, and that I needed tocoordinate another pick-up at the same time for a planer (over 8500lbs) as wellas a band saw.
I plannedon coordinating that myself, but Renee assured me that she could easily do itherself, and when I told her on Thursday that I had a rigger lined up forTuesday, the 24th, at 2.00PM, she assured me that she would have TWOtrucks on the premises at 1.30PM, in order to make sure that both pick-upswould be done in a timely manner. Again, I reiterated the importance ofcoordinating in a timely fashion both pick-ups because of the high cost ofrigging.
Friday, aswell as the following Monday, I called her to make sure that the matter wastaken care of, and to again firmly impress on her the importance of making surethat the TWO pick-ups would be done at the same time, due to the high cost ofrigging and she assured me that she was staying on top of it and that she wouldhave TWO trucks available on Tuesday at 1.30PM. I calledagain Tuesday morning around 9.30AM to confirm that the TWO trucks werescheduled for that same afternoon at 1.30PM, simply to be told that she onlyhad ONE truck available. I told her that if she could not do as she hadpromised me all along, that we would have to cancel everything because I wasnot willing to pay the rigging fee twice. I, thenmade a few calls and found a freight company that could be there at 1.30PM topick up the second load. I called Renee back to tell her that, but she told methat she had managed to get the second load handled by the same truck that waspicking up the first load, and she assured me again that they would be there aspromised at 1.30PM.
Well, 2extremely incompetent individuals showed up at 4.10PM with a trailer thatwas missing 5 or 6 boards in the middle, which made for a precarious situationwhen trying to load multiple machines, had loadedup the lower section of that trailer with a damaged semi. With an incredible stretchof stupidity, they put that semi right in the middle of that section of thetrailer, making it impossible to load anything of substantial size (knowingquite well that they had to pick up TWO other loads at my site). There was 42in the front of that damaged semi, and 46 in the back of it for an availabletotal of almost 9 if dumb& dumber had rigged it properly. All I needed in order to load the planerand band saw was 8.
Needless tosay, they could only take one machine, the lathe, to New Orleans, and I had to reschedule with therigger and the same freight company that I had reached earlier in the day for apick-up the following morning at 7.00AM. Both of those companies worked with meand charged me much reduced rates but it still ended up costing me an extra$525. Freightquote.com failed to deliver in what was promised and should hold thattrucking company responsible for their total lack of professionalism to theamount of $525 that I had to incur in extra cost. I wrote an Email to freightquote.com as well as speaking to one of their managers on the phone, and explained in clear details the whole situation but they totally rejected my claim and categorically told me that they did not intend to do anything about it, not even withhold money from that most incompetent trucking company that they used. So, for anyone thinking of saving a few bucks by using www.freightquote.com, beware, for it might well cost you many hundreds of dollars more than they promise you and they most likely won't hold themselves responsible for any hassles that you may incur in the process
