Retained Jay Freireich to handle an IRS audit on my behalf. He started out by not contacting the auditor for over two weeks after he had been retained and told that it was time sensative that he be in touch with the auditor immediatley. His excuse for not being in touch with the auditor was that he had a wrong number.in two weeks he did not call me to get a correct number. He was content in not following through.
He prepared nothing for the audit. I prepared numerous schedules on my own to have him review and provide to the auditor. I sent him many documents via email requested by the IRS to send to them on my behalf.
After having given him a substantial retainer his bills grew quickly. I asked how the audit was progress and he said they take time. He then would ask as many times as he could during a phone conversation if I would give him a credit card number he could charge toward my bill.
Growing suspicious I sought the advice of a compentant tax accountant who review what had been done and saw it amounted to nothing. The accountant called the IRS and the auditor confirmed that most of the information I had provided Jay Freireich never was sent to the IRS. Now, more than four months after he was retained nothing had been done. Documents provided were not sent and the auditor was frustrated.
My new accountant noted I should ask Jay Freireich for a full detail of all his billings and copies of all letters, correspondence and work product prepared on my behalf and or sent to the IRS on my behalf. Freireich again, without shame, not only dodged providing the documents and detail (with he is required to under the Rules of Professional Conduct governing attorneys in NJ) but he continued to aske for a credit card to charge his bill against.
Fortunately, my new accoutant caught the issue and is bringing my situation to a close.
In my opinion, Jay Freireich is interested in one thing and that is your money. He is dangerous in that he is fiercly incompetent. He practices before the IRS where clients and prospective clients are in need of timely, competent and diligent service.
If you want your IRS or other legal problems to worsen I would highly recommend his services. If like me you want and expect diligent professionals to handle your important matters look elsewhere.
