I am an employee at a small business and received a phone call from Merchant Services Protection Plan. The girl on the phone said that she needed to verify some information in order to send us an updated information packet. I told her that she would need to speak to the owner, but she assured me that she knew that only my boss (called him by his first and last name) could approve of any purchases and that this was simply to send us the info packet.
She coerced me into allowing her to record me stating my name, the business address (which she had previously stated) and a few other seemingly minor details. At the end of the conversation she rattled quickly through some information and I heard "$39.95 per month and you have 30 days to cancel."
I immediately tried to stop her but she hung up. A week later we received a little booklet and my very own Legal Club of America membership card with my name on it. I called the 800 number in the booklet the very next morning and they had already charged us the $39.95, but they assure me that we will be credited back the charge.
I'm not really sure how they get away with this. They are somehow linked to our credit card processing company or Discover card and that's how they had our credit card info. Apparently they try to sneak charges onto your businesses credit card and hope that it gets overlooked. These people are liars and criminals and need to be stopped.
If you own a business or are an employee reading this, never fall for their ploys and be sure that anyone answering phone calls is informed of this ripoff.
