My Leisure Savings Club, Smart Shopper Savings Plan Rip-Off: Company Uses 2 Names to Confuse Consume

This so-called "deal" was offered to me on 2/05/09 via phone from a company called "Smart Shopper". They make it sound like it was an offering from my Credit Card company (I have a Chase Card). For only $1 for the 1st month I could review their literature regarding savings that their plan offered. The initial cost was only $1 for the 1st month. Thereafter the cost per month would be $29.95. I could cancel at any time.

I received the packet via USPS mail and reviewed the literature and found that it did not meet my needs and canceled "Smart Shopper" via telephone on 2/18/09. I was told that no other charges would be applied to my credit card. Please note that I received only 1 (ONE) such packet via the mail and it was from "SMART SHOPPER".

Today, I received my monthly statement from Chase Card Services for my credit card and found that a charge of $29.85 was applied to my card on 3/06/09. The vendor notated on the bill was "MY LEISURE SAVINGS CLUB".

I called Chase to see if there was a credit of $29.85 applied to my card since the statement went out and there was not.

I then called "Smart Shopper" and spoke to a "Bernard" in customer service. He told me that "Smart Shopper" WAS canceled on 2/18/09. I then asked about My Leisure Savings Club and he said he had no knowledge of that company and that I needed to call the telephone number that was listed next to the vendor name on my credit card statement.

I then called the number that was listed on this statement only to get the VERY SAME "Bernard" in customer service! Immediately I knew what was going on. I again stated that this "deal" was canceled on 2/18/09 and he had the nerve to tell me that I only canceled Smart Shopper and NOT My Leisure Savings Club! I then asked him why the packet that I received did not mention My Leisure Savings Club anywhere in the literature and he said that a second packet was sent out. THIS IS A LIE! I NEVER received any packet for My Leisure Savings Club.

I asked him to play back the recorded statement of my approval and when he did there is actually a sentence in there that says "Smart Shopper/My Leisure Savings Club"... Etc... Etc... Etc...

Now, I am not a genius, but neither am I stupid. Nowhere in the recorded conversation did it ever say that these were two separate and different plans. Nowhere did my literature ever refer to a second "savings" plan. And never did I received a packet for the 2nd plan.

This seems like a good way for this enterprise (can't really call it a "Business" can I?) to make a fast $30 bucks off of unsuspecting consumers.

I have reported this scam to Chase Card Services. Great credit card company by the way. They will give me a credit for this and place a report of this in their files.

I can only hope that by taking the time to do this I will have helped other unsuspecting consumers.
