A company in Canada invented 'Artists' Market Research Center' and sent out a mailing to many people saying they were doing market research. People received checks that seemed to come from my business for about $3,500 and were asked to test market the Western Union system by cashing the Artists' Market check and then sending $2,000 by wire to someone: a name in London, someone else in Boston... Just a name and a city
I received several calls today from people around the country who got the checks but were smart enough to google Artists' Market and find that we are an art gallery in Connecticut and not a market research firm. Two folks sent me copies of the scam letter and checks and forms for them to fill out.
One person avoided the rip-off and wrote the following note: "I feel so bad that this scam artist is doing this to you and your business. I hope that he and his accomplices get caught. God keeps a good record of such individuals. He may be fooling people but he can not fool God. I will be praying for him."
