For the last 5 years since I was taken for $2500 by Dan Heskett I have logged onto to usacomplaints.com to see if he was still out there playing the same old game and I see he has. Furthermore the sub human has even had the nerve to rebut the complaints of his victims with "I am not a con" and "If you call me we can settle this." Really?
Let me tell you my story. It was Christmas of 2005 and my husband two small children (one who is autistic) and I were preparing to leave our house in Farmersville Texas to move closer to family and work. I had just been discharged from the Army due to injury and my husband and I decided to get a fresh start close to family. Looking through the newpaper one evening I found an attractive ad for a home in Carrolton. The next morning I called the number.
I spoke with a sub human named Dan Heskett and he gave me the address to the home so I could go take a look at it I however could only see the exterior not the interior. He stated the people had not yet moved and there would have to be an appointment set to look at the home's interior.
No problem! I liked the house and we were eager to move and it wasn't too long before we were able to view the inside and were extremely pleased. We found a buyer for our home in Farmersville and were in the midst of closing on it while at the same time closing the deal on the house in Carrolton with the puddle of human debris that goes by the name of Dan.
We signed a lease and paid our deposit which was 1500 plus first months rent. We paid him in person with cash and received a signed receipt as per our request. Everything seemed to be going swimmingly and the kids were excited as were my husband and I.
Moving came on a rainy cold winters day about 3 weeks after we had signed the lease and less than a week before Christmas. My husband I and the kids piled into the car and followed the movers (hauling a 3000 sq ft house of furniture) to our assumed new home in Carrolton. When we arrived we were extremely disappointed to see that the house still had all of the previous owners effects set decoratively around the property and DAn... Was no where to be found.
But we had the keys and a signed lease for this home so we walked up to the door unlocked it and walked in... Only to be greeted by the owner of the home. A tall man in his early thirties who was none to happy about our trespass.
After some yelling we all understood that the real trespasser here was Dan Heskett. We all sat down and talked in the living room of what was supposed to be our new family home and heard him out. They told us that after his wife's battle with cancer they lost their savings and jobs. Their home was going into forclosure. They were trying to save their home so they contacted Real estate investor Daniel Heskett who promised to help them refinance their home and save it from the banks.
However Dan did not save their home instead through legal loop holes stole the home from them had deed in hand which they had signed but didn't sign over to him if you know what I mean and had taken the 75k of equity from these people.
We felt awful for them as they begged us not to take their home. We called Dan who did finally answer and offer to give us the 75k if we would sign the papers to take the house. I'm not sure what he was trying to pull but we told him no... We want our deposit back or we are going to the police.
So we spent $750 that evening to have a 3000 sq ft house full of furniture placed in storage by the moving company and we stayed at a hotel. On Monday we called the police and filed a report.
Only a week from Christmas we had no home. We had now try to search for a home but couldn't do so until after the holidays. My husband and 2 children stayed at his fathers while I went to my mothers.
Carrolton police detective did investigate and was ready to arrest him if he didnt pay back the money. Meanwhile, I continued to try and contact this fhead. This is why I laugh at his rebuttal "If they would contact me!" or "Leave a message" Oh yeah we did that. He was no where to be found. He even changed his cell number on us. I contacted one of his handy men and bamboozled my way into getting his new number.
His idea of settling the situation when we did finally get in touch with him was to tell us and I quote "I don't have to give you back sh. I don't owe you anything! Stop fing calling me!" He even called me a bch and a couple of other choice words.
When the law caught up with him months later he was forced to pay ussome but not all of he took from us. We were told. "As long as he hasmade a payment it is no longer a legal matter but a civil matter."
So I decided I was going to call my lawyer. My lawyer spoke to his lawyer and my lawyer found out that because he never signs his name only the company name to documents he is legally acting on the part of the company which is not owned by him but owned by his wife. Now... Because his wife denies oweing anyone any money or transversing with any of the victims... Which is true I never once spoke to her... They are essentially sue proof. I have no case.
Let me tell you alittle about what I did find out about Dan though from my lawyer. He is a convicted felon. He numerous convictions for domestic violence against his wife.
Not only that but he has had claim bankruptcy so many times it's insane. He only seems to have money in phases and when that no money phase comes around he goes out conning people the way he had me and countless others.
He is textbook sociopath. I am really not certain how much can be done to stop him but I would think something could be done. It really doesn't seem fair that this pile of human manure is allowed to continue to do this people.
And Dan... You are con artist and thief just as my 4 year old called you when he saw you the day you were forced to make a payment to us. If my 4 year old autistic son could see it... Than it must be eh? Your messing with people's livelyhoods and lives purposely preying on the middle class working stiff. Your going to cross the wrong person someday and that person is going to figure out a way to put you out of business... For good.
