An official looking check and letter arrived at the post office box stating that I could earn $300 a week doing mystery shopping with I-Spy Mystery Shoppers.
The check amount is $3,970.00 and it asks me to deposit the money and then send 3,400 of that to a specified person located at 7164 Hwy, Central City, KY 42330 via Western Union or MoneyGram. (This person is on FaceBook with a lot of friends and indeed is located in Kentucky but I just wonder if her identity has been stolen?) Money was stated to be included for processing fees at Western Union, 300 for the first weeks work, and 100 for mystery shopping at a choice of department stores.
The first tip that this is a scam is this - no one just voluntarily sends a large check in the mail. This position wasn't applied for online as the letter stated and there are various phone numbers with different area codes. After calling the numbers, I was doubly sure that it was a scam. The first number had a message in French first, so I thought it might be a mistake. Called the second number and it was the same message that said something to the effect of "no service at this number". The number is apparently in Canada. Alberta, I believe. I am listing all of the names used in this letter so that if these people have lost their identity, there will be some sort of starting point to recover it.

The fax number prefix is actually located in Watertown, NY... Hummmm, quite a large operation going there? Alberta, NY, Chicago... The actual company, I-Spy Mystery Shoppers is located in Nebraska. They are not the authors of this scam. Oh, the check is issued with a San Francisco, CA bank address on it. BEWARE, those who are desperate for a legitimate work at home job.
