Ripped off on lamp improper packaging

I sent an antique lamp through the UPS Store. The lamp was placed in a box and wrapped in newspaper to get it out of the place of purchase. They assumed it was packaged for travel across country. They took great care in packaging the lamp shade but did nothing about the irreplacable ceramic lamp. I moved across country by myself and was run off the road in Oklahoma yet everything arrived intact. I pay for the service of sending this graduation gift to my sister and they botched it.

The owners told me to insure the lamp for one hundred and the lampshade for another one hundred. My naivete got the best of me. Foolishly I assumed they would reinforce the lamp. A stained lampshade arrived intact but the lamp is demolished. When I filed a claim I was told to fax the original receipt. I did that on the same day and nothing happened.

Four weeks later I called and they said they were waiting for the information. They did not call me to follow up and probably hoped I would forget about it. I received the one hundred dollar check for the claim but paying $68.24 for the privilege of breaking a lamp along with one hundred eighty for the lamp is not good business.

The owners blamed the ones who packaged it but I paid for packing materials in one box, why didn't they package the fragile piece? This is the thanks I get for trusting anyone and next time I'll send gift certificates but never through the UPS Store
