Title: Another Scam
Today when I got home from work, I retrieved the mail from my postal mailbox which is placed outside my front door. Besides receiving the usual junk mail and bills, I received a ominous white business size envelope. It had my name and home address affixed to it via a white 2.5" L x 1" W label. The envelope contained no return address.
Thinking that there was nothing of great importance in the mail, I placed it on the kitchen table, put my work bags away, and played with the two dogs that my 23 yr old daughter and I have.
At approx 7 pm, my daughter came home from work. Besides hearing, "Hi Mom! I'm home!" I heard, "Hey Ma! Who do you know in Canada?" I replied, "Nobody except for Grammy's side of the family who live throughout Canada but they'd call not write. Go ahead and open it up if you'd like. Let me know if there's anything good." As suggested, she opened it up and brought the envelope, letter, and check to me saying, "It's a scam."
This piece of mail definitely came from Canada. Over the stamp which says, "CANADA 98" it states on the first line: 090820 17:32 M4L 3TD D48 On the second line: www.canadapost.ca On the third line: www.postescanada.ca
The letter states (and is retyped here, exactly the way it was received):

A ticket with serial no. 461209 posted in your name drew the lucky winning numbers. This entitles you to the lump sum winning of $250,000.00 to be sent to you once the taxes on it has been paid.
Enclosed is a check of $4885.00 which was deducted from your winnings.
The sole purpose of this FIRST CHECK is for the payment of the applicable GOVERNMENT TAXES on your winnings.
The tax amount is $2985.00 to be paid through MONEYGRAM found at every WALMART store or any WESTERN UNION in any convenient store.
You will receive your tax information from your Claim Agent TOM DAVID.
Please do not attempt to use this check until you call. The check is signed by Leonard??? And Ronald Dalton. (Comment about the signatures: "Hey Ma! Lookie here! That education did do me some good!":-))
I'd type the banking numbers at the bottom of the check, however, I do believe it would be inappropriate to broadcast that information at this time. Two wrongs don't make a right.:-)
Now with all that said, it is my very honest and most sincere hope that this information helps someone... Anyone... Even if it's only one person, I would be successful.
