I don’t usually do this but I had a particularly bad experience at the Mobil gas station here in Milford on Rt. 85 going towards 495. Basically the clerk gave me a hard time, insulted me, then called me fat as I was leaving. Here is what happened: I stopped in to buy a couple snacks for the trail before I went mountain biking on Saturday 9/27 at around 1:00 PM. Everything seemed normal. I swiped my debit card when the clerk started scanning my items. I waited for the screen to ask for my PIN then it said “Please swipe your card” again. So I swiped assuming I did it too early the first time. The clerk then said “Just hit debit or credit. You didn’t need to swipe your card again.” So I said, “It told me to swipe the card again. Now it says to choose debit or credit”. He said “No, it didn’t. It said credit or debit”. We went back and forth. I told him I know what I saw and he told me he knew what it said. A stupid little disagreement that I was ready to just chalk up to him having a bad day. Then he proceeded to tell me that I was “ignorant and stupid”. And as I was walking out the door he says “And look at you. You’re fat”. I called him an a-hole, walked to my car, got my phone and went back in to get his name and his manager’s number. He had gone and hid in the back room. So I went on with my day. I had a friend from NY coming up to go biking so I didn’t have time to mess with some punk kid at a gas station.

So this morning I stopped by to talk to a manager and was told that the owner would probably be in around 10:00 am. I left my name and number and asked the clerk to have him call me when he comes in because I had a complaint about the cashier on Saturday. He hadn’t called me by 11:30 am so I called the store and asked for the owner. The owner got on the phone and I told him I was calling to make a complaint about the cashier on Saturday at 1:00 pm and I told him the whole story. His response was, “Ok, I will speak with him today when he comes in”. He told me that he was very surprised by this and it didn’t seem like something he would do. Almost like he didn’t believe me. So I said “That’s it? ”. And he told me he would handle it and started to get rude tone. I told him that I don’t think that that clerk should be working there anymore and his response was that they are short staffed and he can’t go down that avenue. So I told him if that’s the case, I will never buy from that store ever again. He told me he was sorry to hear that and that is it.

I am still in awe at the horrible customer server from not only the clerk, but also the owner. If I owned a business and found out an employee spoke to a customer that way completely unprovoked, I would give them more than just a slap on the wrist.

I just want to specify that this is the Mobil station on Rt. 86 not the Gulf station on the corner of the intersection by Wendy’s. It’s the one on Cedar St.

I am emailing everyone just to let them know that Mobil has lost my business and I have decided not to give this gas station my business anymore and I encourage you to do the same if you feel the same. The owners name is Roy Roger and it looks like he sells oil too.
