I tried the direct mail campaign as another tool in my job search. The process begins with the candidate providing a resume. O & A writes a cover letter and both documents (150 at a cost of approximately $700) are sent to hiring managers based on the industries you choose.
O & A "coaches" you by providing a step by step method to find that great job in the "hidden" job market. No job leads resulted from the direct mail campaign; the "gatekeepers" are very protective these days, and companies weren't creating new positions.
I informed O & A of my frustration with this approach; they sent me a list of 300 additional hiring managers names in other industries. Once again I was asked to provide the industries. There were few companies on the list even worth contacting. No mailing this time on the part of O & A; just a list of contacts and company names.
O & A does not make any promises or guarantees using their direct mail campaign, but they don't even follow-up and ask if you found a job using this method.
My advice is to do your own research, prepare a cover letter and resume, and send the documents yourself. If you have to do most of the work yourself, then invest your time and money wisely.
