Make sure You don't Get Ripped Off

This is to all the ex-Supra Customers who are continually being billed for service they no longer have with Supra.

1. If you changed telephone service and are still being billed by Supra, these are things you can do to get them to STOP.
Ask your current telephone company to send you a copy of your change of service, or your first bill from them showing when you changed service from Supra to them. Make an extra copy or two of it because you may have to send it more than once! Send it to the Florida address where you paid your bills, or better yet, send it in one of the bills they keep sending you. I would send it registered with a signature card back as proof that they signed for it. Yes, it costs more, but it might save hiring a lawyer.

It still may take them awhile to settle your account. I would follow this mailing up by calling customer service and demanding that they put the notes in your acct saying you sent in proof (on what date) that you have not had Supra service since that date. Make them read the comments back to you to be sure they have entered it the way you said it. If they can't read it back, ask for a Supervisor and do the same to them. Make them read back the comment entered to make sure it is on your acct.

They do send old accounts that are unpaid to collection agencies. Keep your signature card and the service order/bill you sent Supra, and DO call them and tell them you had sent it and will copy them on it if necessary.insist that if this went on your credit report that it be removed immediately.

2) To those customers who moved and changed service, but whose old phone number/service is still connected IN YOUR NAME at old address: As above, make sure you call customer service at Supra and make sure there are notes in your account stating when you had ordered the service disconnected. If they cannot read those notes back to you, make sure the information is entered while you are on the phone with them. That disconnect order can be done VERY QUICKLY and there is no excuse for it still to be connected. If you are concerned that someone is living in your old house/apt and using your old phone service, don't be concerned. Don't pay the bills if they send them to you! The people who are using your old acct are getting FREE telephone service PAID FOR BY SUPRA! That should make you feel better. If necessary, because you are still getting billed for that service, do what I said above and get proof that you moved & changed telephone numbers and get a signature that Supra received that notice.

3) Whenever you speak to a Supra representative, ask that notes be entered in your acct while you are on the phone. Ask that the notes be read back to you. It is Supra Policy that anyone who speaks to a customer Will Enter NOTES about the conversation in their account. It's a toll free call... Wait the extra minutes for them to enter the notes. Do not let them go until they can read the notes back to you. It is also Supra Policy that anyone speaking to a customer must READ ALL OF THE NOTES in the customers account! Do not let them say this wasn't noted or that wasn't noted until they can tell you that ALL NOTES in your account have been read. If necessary, as for a Supervisor, or Manager of that Department. Make sure that they can read the notes and/or have entered their own notes. The Policy also includes THEM! Hopefully you will get someone who actually knows what they are doing and get your problem resolved quickly and painlessly.

If you continue to have problems with Supra, change companies. Check on the internet for CLECS in your area, talk to friends, co-workers, relatives, and see what company they are using. Do a little homework and see if people are having problems with that company and then make your informed decision about your telephone service. It might be cheaper, or it might cost you a little more. Sometimes peace of mind is worth a little more. That is a personal decision.

In Brief: do not refuse to send the bills or whatever they are asking for as proof that you changed service or disconnected an old account. Work with them to a point (getting your proof!) that they were notified and copied. Someone in Billing or Provisioning will eventually see that your account is closed and you don't have to fight a collection agency in the future.

I hope this has helped someone.
