Phony Classified Job Ad. Ripoff Sports and entertainment marketing, my ass!

It was too good to be true. "Overloaded staff, looking for new faces to help our sports and entertainment marketing team... No experience neccesary... Blah blah blah... Call Mary." I called and got set-up for an interview. Me and about 5 other people were waiting to be seen. My interview was very vague. I was very nervous to begin with, so I didn't think of asking about the job too much. The guy said that only 5 out of about 200 were going to make the cut. You can imagine how excited I was when I got called back.

On my first day, me and 4 other people were waiting in the lobby of a rink-dink office building with a huge oak tree out in front. They called us in by name one by one, about 5 minutes apart. When I got called in, I met with a man who walked me around the office a bit and into a room filled with like 9 people. I got introduced around, and got assigned to some young guy with a French accent and his monkey-boy partner.

We drove to a town about 20 miles away, (luckily I only lived about 5 minutes away from this town), and we dropped off monkey-boy in the middle of an office park. Frenchie proceeded to park the car and walk, for the next hour and a half, with me in tow, business to business asking people to switch their long distance to AT&T long distance. I was confused at first then realized what a scam this was. We got yelled at by one lady saying that the office building we were in had no tolerance for solicitors. Frenchie paid no mind and went to the next office.

I was a tool. They get you in with the glitz and prospect of working in an industry that attracts the type of people they require. Young men and women looking for a great career in a field they'll enjoy. Then they use you to bolster their "sales team", or be one of their "Field Reps."

I told Frenchie that this job wasn't for me, used his cell phone to call my sister, and left him behind to peddle his wares alone.

If you encounter this employment ad in the paper, find out AS MUCH AS YOU CAN about the company that wants to interview you. Make sure you ask as many questions as you can.

Don't let this happen to you...
