My husband bought a beautiful siberian husky puppy, 7 weeks old from this dirtbag peet store. The puppy died 2 weeks later from bacteria which settled in her heart and constricted it. I was completely heart broken. She was an angel and did not deserve what happened to her because of greedy individuals.
She came from an over bred mother and a litter where a couple litter mates had died prior to our purchase. So the pet store knowingly sold us a dog who came from a sickly litter. We spent $400 for the puppy and $800 on medical bills. The pet store owner refused to give us the money for the puppy back at least.
I later found out he had bought the entire litter and paid between $100 and $150 for each puppy. Quite a hefty profit that jerk made.in the past few months I have heard of other incidents from this pet shop from a friend who works at a vet clinic here in town. One couple bought a puppy with parvo and the other had the mange! Another puppy had scabies while a friend of ours bought 2 kittens from there and both died within days of purchase.
I just wanted to tell my story to persuade others to stop shopping at pet stores for their animals. Please find a reputable breeder in your area or go to another state if you have to. Check the laws in your state and find out your rights. Tell your breeder to make a contract guaranteeing the health of the puppy for one year from it's 8 week birthday. If you are dealing with a good breeder they should be happy to do so.
AKC dogs that are genetically guaranteed are another safeguard. You may pay more in the beginning but it will pay off in the long run for you and your family saving great heart ache. If you want reform write your government and demand stricter animal rights and consumer of animals rights. No sale before an animal is 8 weeks old, guarantee of health for one year, and veterinary proof of deworming and shots (so you can go to the vets office if you have to).
