I tried North American Telephone Network a little over 4 years ago because their prices were so much cheaper than the main carriers were at the time. Within a couple months, I knew it was a mistake as the bills were incorrect when I actually received them, and their network was down quite a bit. I cancelled my account and paid all amounts due.
Now, 4 years later, I get a call from them saying that I owe them an extra amount on money..$23.76. If I pay it now in the next 24 hours, they won't ruin my credit. Since I knew I did not owe them anything (my credit is perfect) and pay any bill that has ever been sent in full, I knew this was a scam. I asked the person calling if he could prove that I owed him anything. Naturally, he claimed that it would take a very long time to gather their records. They were "archived", but if I paid today, they would reduce my $23.76 to $23.00.
What a joke. It's not the amount that counts here, it's the deceptive practice. Who calls someone 4 years after they've cancelled service and tries to milk them for money?
