I merchandised tortillas and chips at two Wal-Marts for Tri City Cheese & Meats (tricitycheesemeats.com) as an independent contractor. I was to be paid hourly, with bonus money for getting product placed in additional spots.
I worked quickly and efficiently. I secured extra store space to sell their products. I constantly kept all the products fully stocked and rotated, on the selling floor as well as the stockroom. Had fantastic relationships with everyone in the stores, from associates to upper management. For the first few months everything went fairly well.
When I got the stores to give extra space, which I stocked and maintained, the company (my immediate manager Paul Gorney) told me I didn't earn the bonus because it wasn't up long enough. Everytime I was to be paid for extra work he/the company changed the rules. It didn't matter how hard I worked or what rules I followed he/they always came up with a new rule and another excuse not to pay.
I was provided a pricing gun as part of the job required pricing the product. The last straw was when the company decided I was making too much money with an hourly wage. They offered $0.50 per case or $10.00 a visit, starting in 3 days, take it or leave. I told them that wouldn't cover my expenses and I would no longer be working for them.
When I finally received my last check (three weeks late) it was shorted. I was told by Connie Collins it was to cover the expense of the pricing gun. I turned in the pricing gun to Paul Gorney, along with extra labels I had in my possession. My calls to Connie Collins, the person who writes the checks, were sent directly to her voicemail. My e-mails were answered at first, and I was told by her that she'd check into "it" and get back to me, but she never did.
I do not want anybody else to get ripped off by this awful company, so if you find yourself working for these creeps, don't work hard and definitely don't worry about turning in the pricing gun. You're going to pay for it anyway, in more ways than one.
I had the last laugh, though, since I wasn't out of work long, just long enough to get a job with an HONEST company that pays VERY WELL and CARES about me!!!
