I contracted with Ed Schmidt, an agent for Mayflower to move from NJ to NC. They sent a salesman to look at home. I was given three prices - the top one was a firm price. At no time was I ever asked about where I was moving to or type of area. I was never informed if a shuttle was needed, I would have to pay an additional price. They were to completely pack and unpack and drain waterbed. Packers could not drain waterbed and I had to do myself. Packers were very disorganized and left quite a bit.
Movers were upset packers did not do job and also they did not have enough room on truck. At destination, I was told I would have to pay an additional $850 for a shuttle service as they could not get into driveway. I paid this in order to get furniture. They were supposed to unpack. This consisted of slitting open the boxes and letting things fall on floor. I had book cases thrown on top of printers and computers and expensive photo papers shredded and mangled.
Mountain bikes which they had disassembled were re-assembled so poorly they had to be taken to a bike shop for repair. Waterbed was re-assembled incorrectly and I fell through it. Tables were scratched and many furniture items had missing pieces. I filed a claim and now am caught in middle. Ed Schmidt Company refuses to return my calls. Their secretary says it is Mayflower corporate who will handle claim. Corporate says it is Ed Schmidt. I went to a national company in order to avoid problems or if they did arise to get good customer service. All I can say is this was and is "THE MOVE FROM HELL"
