First off, let me say that I did not join Romance Pros because I was not finding dates on my own - I am asked out on a regular basis but as a female who has had experience with stalkers and unwanted attention in the past, I felt that Romance Pros would be the safest way to date as they do background/credit checks on all members.
When I met with Denise for my initial interview, we discussed at length the most important qualities I was looking for in a relationship as well as qualities I consider undesirable and thus wish to avoid. For example, I listed strong religious tendencies, the need to have children, and long distance relationships as traits/situations I could not have in a partner. On the other hand, a stated that I considered at least a few years of formal education very, very important as well as a minimum height of 5'10". To be sure, I was very explicit, giving details of previous relationships (what worked, what didn't) and what my expectations were of Romance Pros. For a one-time $1,971 membership fee plus the monthly maintenance fees, Romance Pros assured me that they had many potential matches that met my specifications in their member pool and that soon I would find myself on dates of utmost quality.
My first date was with a man who lived an hour away (to me, this is long-distance) and who thought that he might want children some day. My second date was with a prison guard who was very disappointed to discover that I was not a woman of faith. My third date was fine in that there wasn't anything about him that would make us incompatible but we just didn't hit it off. My fourth date was with a man who was way under 5'10" - in fact, I think I may have been a touch taller than him. My fifth date, and final straw, was with an unemployed tire repair person - need I say more.
After the second date, it was clear that Romance Pros did not have the pool of quality, high-caliber members they claimed to and, not wanting to waste any more of my time or the time of anyone else, I wrote to Romance Pros asking for a partial refund. They replied that a refund of any type wasn't possible but that I could cancel my membership any time. Given the amount of money I had invested, I decided to give it another chance. Four months and three dates later I wrote an e-mail asking to cancel my membership and announcing my intention to publicly report my experience with Romance Pros. I believe it was the VP who responded that time, saying that Romance Pros did not deserve to be negatively written up. I explained to him what had happened and that I was still willing to settle for a partial refund. I never heard for Romance Pros again.
Bottom line: Romance Pros uses high-pressure sales tactics, are very deceptive, and cannot even come close to delivering the services they promise. And this wasn't just my experience, as I learned from talking from other members. Please, BE AWARE!
