Rent A center totally violated my rights. You won't believe what they did to me. Please feel free to read the following complaints. If you should have a simular situation do not hesitate to contact me.

Dear Rent a Center Inc./ Corporate office; February 14

I was told I could not have your phone number or speak to you in your corporate office in Plano Texas. However I was given your fax number. As I retrieved your names online at www.RentACenter.com I decided to CC a few of you to insure this letter will go to the proper department Since the district manager Kevin Ruckle of West Virginia has not returned my two phone calls made 2/10 & 2/11 at 304-296-2215, I decided to contact Rent A Centers Corporate office.
Attached is my complaint

My name is Kelly XXXXX I am a customer of Rent A Center in Bridgeport West Virginia. I currently am leasing two items from your Bridgeport Store.

On Jan 7th I moved from my home in Clarksburg to a Bridgeport West Virginia. Upon my move, I called my creditors including Rent A Center with my current address and telephone number.

Feb 14th I received a call from Rent A Center discussing payment arrangements Please note this is after I moved. I reminded them I had a few weeks coming to me for referrals and that I would be in the store after that time expires.

On Feb 8th I called Natalie XXXX to arrange child care with her 15 year old daughter for I had to run and pay bills. I left a message to call me back. 15 minutes later I receive a call from Mrs. XXXX informing me that Rent A Center Manager threatened to call the Police authorities on me and that I was in big trouble for behind payments on my account.

Not only did Mrs. XXXX tell me about this innocent she also explained to me that they harassed her several times prior after asking them to stop. She feels victimized by Rent A Center Bridgeport, WV. Please see "Natalie XXXXX"

I am full aware I am approximately one week behind in payments. I had full attention to come into Rent A center Saturday Feb 8th and make my account up to date and install an additional months payments.

After hearing from Natalie xxxxx that I was in big trouble and maybe looking at jail, I was frightened. The last 3 weeks I have been on Chemotherapy medication for RA. I have been on bed rest due to the reaction of chemotherapy and RA. I honestly was scared to death and still am of the repercussions of your office in Bridgeport for non payment on a lease / rental contract. I subsequently, called the Police Department to notify them of my concerns of being arrested for non payment.

I later found WEST VIRGINIA Consumer Goods Rental Protection Act West Virginia Code, As added by Laws 1993, S.B. 108, approved May 6.1993, effective July 9,1993

Within this act I found out that I have been victimized with articles that specifically covered under Consumer Goods Rental Protection Act West Virginia. Code

I feel my rights have been violated. Regardless if I may or may not have been in total structure of the rental contract agreement I signed. I am very sorry for being a little late on payments but I don't feel the conduct of your store in Bridgeport West Virginia was professional in any means and by far is a frightening experience for me and my family.

I had full intent to come in and take care of this account matter. Now I am perplexed as to what I should do with the Threats and or coercion in reference to my account and merchandise under these circumstances. I do not want to lose my merchandise but after the managers arrogance on the telephone sat 8th 2003 I simply informed him that I would seek and attorney's advice on this issue. I have not obtained and attorney as of yet. The merchandise is excellent condition as I stated to the store manager. I am not a criminal and should not be treated like one.
Please help me in this matter.

I Natalie xxxx hereby Swear that what I am about to say is true to the best of my knowledge. I would like to file a complaint with your department for violating my families following rights.

1. Federal Trade Commission.
2. Unfair Debt Collection Practices Act
3. West Virginia Consumer Goods Rental Protection Act.

My rights and of my family have been violated on numerous occasions by a company called Rent A Center of Bridgeport West Virginia. Violations as follows:

1. Prohibited Conduct Extortionate Conduct in rent to own transaction.

2. Threats or Coercion Oppression & Abuse.

3. Fraudulent-Deceptive or Misleading Representation.

4.injunctions against unconscionable agreements and fraudulent or unconscionable conduct.

5. And any others that the court deems appropriate.

Complaint as follows:

I was placed in a situation with Rent A Center that has caused my family and I undue hardships including being fired from My only job for receiving incoming phone calls at work that were related to Rent A Centers recent threat on Kelly XXXXX.

I had no idea that Kelly XXXXX was having financial problems. I felt sad for her and her family. I really thought that Kelly XXXXX was going to jail if she did not pay her bill with Rent A Center within 48 hours and that is why I called her at home before I had to go to work.

At the present time I am unemployed but searching for work. My family depends on my income. I have become just a little behind on my bills. I am past due on my account with Rent A Center. So far I have been called over 5 times a day and daily visit's to pick up my merchandise that is half paid for. I feel Rent A Center has violated my rights and has caused me to become past due with my account because of their constant harassment with me over a neighbors Kelly XXXXX.

Kelly XXXXXX was a neighbor of mine. We met her and family when they had a yard sale back in August. Kelly was very nice and we became friends. She told me she was looking for a sitter and asked my daughter if she was interested. After living by Kelly for a few months one day she asked me where she could get a computer. I told her about Rent A Center. I also offered to use my name and phone number as a reference if they needed one. However, I did not know by doing so I was going to be harassed and possibly held accountable for any terms within her contract with Rent A Center to obtain information regarding her payment plans, status, whereabouts and being told the future consequences of Kelly XXXXX inactions not to contact Rent A Center within 48 hours by acting as an interim messenger. My Daughter Ashley XXXXX almost 16 years old was also brought into this matter by phone calls to our house with misrepresentation of Rent A Center. Please see complaint attached. I feel my daughter was victimized and her rights were violated as mine were. She now feels she has lost her sitting job because of Rent A Centers deceptive phone call receive Feb. 7th 2003. Fraudulent-Deceptive or Misleading Representation.
Injunctions against unconscionable agreements and fraudulent or unconscionable conduct.

Enclosed is a letter that explains my original complaint to Rent A Center Corporate office in Plano Texas, statement from one of my neighbors that was harassed and later terminated from her job due to my account with Rent A Center and a certified letter sent to Rent A center from me.

Please help me seek resolution in this matter before you.

Letter to Rent A Center to stop harrasing me certified April 18. I guess Rent A Center did'nt take the law seriously for I am still receiving phone calls which led to a police report I filed and the phone company is tracing these calls for proof:

Dear Rent A Center,

I am writing in response to your constant phone calls and visits to me and my (third party) neighbors.

You are in violation of Section 805 of The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, and Section: 46B 1-8 of the West Virginia Consumer Goods Rental Protection Act therefore I demand that you:
Stop calling, visiting me and my neighbors at home, at work, or any other location!
In accordance with federal law, once you've received this letter, you may only contact me via mail and then only to:

Provide proof that I owe this debt that you claim I owe;
Provide a copy of my State and Federal rights concerning this debt including how to dispute this debt;
Provide proof that you are licensed in my state, and provide me with your license number; to advise me that further efforts are being terminated;
To notify me that you may invoke specified remedies;
To notify me that you intend to invoke a specified remedy.

Be advised that I am keeping accurate records of my correspondence with you, including taping all phone calls. If you continue harassing me, I will pursue all available legal actions against you!

Finally in closing to my report before you I would like to tell you that Rent A Center has NEVER has written me a letter. It is April 26th. All they do is call my house and visit my home DEMANDING to return their Merchandise.

I would aslo like to add I have 2 hand written statements from neighbors that have come forth with statements that Rent A Center did all of the above mentioned in original complaint.
