I placed an order at FragranceNet for perfume. The orders total was listed at $218.98. I agreed to the payment by confirming the order.
A few days later I noticed FragranceNet charged my account $220.50.
This was the third order I had placed over a period of about 2 years at FragranceNet.
I tracked back my previous two orders and noticed that the actual charge to my account was always higher than the total on FragranceNet bill. Each of the bill listed: 1. Subtotal 2. Sales tax 3. Shipping 4. Order Total
I contacted FragranceNet about this discrepancy between invoice and actual charge
FragranceNet response was: "sales tax is charged on all orders shipping to New York State. Please note that tax is computed at the state level when placing your order. Your actual tax may vary depending upon the county you are shipping to."
For one thing: I didn't ship anything anywhere. FragranceNet shipped it to me.
I wonder if the county I'm living in knows how much FragranceNet collected for them. It doesn't show up on any of FragranceNet bills.
FragranceNet simply deducts a a few cents or dollars from customer accounts that are not authorized and hopes to get away with it.
