Defective furniture, and they want me to pay for it after they already took it back!

My husband and I were in Aaron's in Sheridan, AR on February 6 at which time we spoke with Stephanie and another girl. We leased a sofa and recliner, also a bedroom chest of drawers two nightstands and headboard, washer and dryer.

Upon delivery, the chest of drawers was scratched in several places. The general manager Michael was here for the delivery and assured me he would take care of it when they brought out the rest of the furniture two weeks later (some had to be ordered). At the time, we were not ready for the furniture to be set up because we were still cleaning the house we were moving into. They delivered the furniture to the garage.

I called them after getting the furniture in the house to let them know that the sofa did not line up right where it hooked together, leaving one of the legs not touching the floor. Also, that the headboard would not attach to the bed frame (which we outright purchased from them). Stephanie told me that they would take care of it when they delivered the other furniture.

When they delivered the other furniture, the delivery guy came by himself and didn't bring any type of tools or anything. He called Michael, the manager, and I spoke to him on the phone. Michael told me that he would be out Monday, and he would look at the sofa and the bed frame.

On Monday, Michael came out and said that he could not fix the sofa properly, that it was a factory defect and said he could either discount it or take it back. I didn't want a sofa that one leg didn't touch the floor on, so he scheduled to come get it the next Friday (eleven days before another payment was due). Since the recliner matched, he was taking it back as well. As for the headboard, he said he would also take it back since it wouldn't bolt up to the frame.

On the Friday when he showed up to get the furniture (March 6), I asked him to initial or sign saying that he did in fact pick up the furniture and he refused, saying he was not allowed to sign anything. I told him I thought that was rediculous because I had to sign saying that it was delivered. He still refused, so I followed him to the store (30 miles) to get some type of documentation that they had picked up the furniture.

I have to say that his attitude was completely different when my husband was home. Since I was alone that day, he was very rude to me, and I felt that he was really trying to take advantage of the situation. When my husband was with me, he was very professional.in this case, he was not.

I asked the general manager Michael about the eleven days I had paid for on the furniture, and whether it would be credited to my other account. He informed me that there was no refund, and "if we wanted to, we could hold you to the five month agreement." I reminded him that the reason for returning the furniture was that it was defective/damaged. He told me that it wasn't defective because I could still sit on it!!!

Today, March 16, I received a bill for $776.62 because I didn't uphold my five month agreement on defective furniture.

I am very unhappy to say the least, with my experience with Aaron's. I also have just spent an hour on the internet trying to find a number to call Aaron's headquarters or corporate customer service, somewhere other than the Sheridan store. I have not been able to find another contact number.
