I got my Verizon bill yesterday and noticed an extra $40.95 charge from OAN Services. Who in God's country are they? Never asked for the service.
The charge was for 2,976 calls that were made to the lottery results. YES we have called the lottery results before and it only cost us $. 13. That's 13 cents per call on Verizon.
One call from OAN was for 4 minutes @ $. 89 a minute.
The second call was for 39 minutes @ $. 89 a minute. A total of $40.95 with tax and fees. Now here's the deal... How did they get 39 minutes for a lottery call which only takes at most 1 minute to listen to the results. Doesn't make sense. I asked them about this. I asked them how can you prove 39 minutes? They were clueless!
I called OAN and asked for the charges to be removed. They said OK but refused to give me a confirmation #. I asked for the operators name, he gave it me. They said it will take 1-2 billing cycles. We shall see...
I called Verizon today and they were SO helpful! They said That OAN is a 3rd party and they can't refuse any 3rd party that wants to bill on Verizon. They said any 3rd party can get your #. Example... Sometimes you fill out a survey and in return they send you a gift card, now you don't know it, but you just "agreed" to allow a 3rd party. Another example... You call a phone #. You get a recording that says the # is disconnected and to call another # they provide. You call it and now you are dealing with a 3rd party and they are charging you an arm and a leg.
I am keeping records of every phone call I make to OAN and Verizon.
