I highly recommend not using this law firm, as they're the most overpriced and worst one I've ever dealt with. I hired Jef Henninger to help me apply for a NJ Firearm ID Card and while their website says they charge a nominal fee for it, believe me it's not cheap. He gave me a free consultation and promised stuff that wouldn't get delivered. He also said my case would call for an additional fee because it would require extra research. I paid it and that was the last time I ever talked to him. After that you'll only get his secretary.
What I felt was very wrong was during the consultation he promised no other fees would be required after the large retainer payment but within a month I received a packet in the mail that I had to sign issuing additional Legal Fees. I called the secretary asking what this was about and she blew up on me. All I asked was what they'd include and said that Jef told me that all my fees were included. But she literally started screaming like a crazy person.
Jef also said he'd deal with any questions the police had and not to answer any of them. So when the police asked me questions I called Jef, got his secretary, and she told me to go ahead and answer them myself.
On top of this, whenever I'd leave a message with a different secretary they'd never take it down, as they were always highly unorganized. So much so that I actually received my permit with no hassle by the police department on my own. The secretary would call back three times after that over a period of two months asking if I received my permit and I kept telling them yes.
They finally closed my case and I regret hiring them as I could've easily gotten the permit on my own and practically did it by myself anyway. No extra research was ever required and I paid way over what I should have.
In fact I probably did more bad than good by obtaining their services, if you can call what they do a service (I know I can't), as all they ended up actually doing was send two faxes over to the police department. One was to say they were representing me; the other was to thank them for conducting a surprise residence check after I had already settled the matter which just seemed to irritate the officer in charge since it's obvious they rather deal with the person applying themselves.
If you do it yourself, the police are more likely to work with you. Jef's secretary said herself that, lawyers couldn't deal with the state themselves if it came to that because technically they're not allowed to and the state's laws are iffy on this matter. I don't even know what that means exactly, so take that for whatever it's worth. Of course it'd be nice if they said that up front.
Adding insult to injury, I had one last question when my case was over that Jef could've easily answered, but instead of feeling guilty over not doing any real work on my case, he told me that would... Surprise surprise, require more money to find out. It's because of firms like this that there are so many bad attorney jokes out there.
My word of wisdom to anyone who's going to apply for a permit is to do it yourself. If you get denied after that then get a lawyer. And do yourself a favor, don't get this one!!!
