At&t wireless had NO authorization to retain my credit card number on file. I do not have an at&t contract, never have but did let an aquaintance borrow money to pay their cell phone bill (approx $135). I called in the borrowed payment with my visa debit card linked to my primary bank account. Two months later I've received additional charges from the same account for an additional $458.66.
This amount was the borrowee's (no relation) current cell phone bill amt and at&t wireless provided the option to use the "credit card on file" for payment. At no point did I authorize at&t to retain my personal credit information for ANY reason, let alone to use for continued payment on a 3rd party account. This is a violation of my privacy and misuse of personal information.
Police reports are filed against the person who opted to use "the credit card on file" to pay their bill & a fraud case is open.
I'm not sure what to do about at&t for retaining my personal information and allowing a 3rd party to use with without authorization.
