Meyers Van Lines
Unscrupulous, Crooked, Negligent Scam Artists!

My first contact was Tony, the sales guy who had quoted me a price of $1980.00 off of my inventory listed I provided him. After shopping around, Tony had agreed to lower the price to $1790 to match a price of a competitor. I had sent Tony an email asking if they do in home estimates because I was very concerned the price not change on me. Tony assured me that as long as my inventory did not change, my price wouldn't. We set a date (4/23)/08 for pick up and I provided him with a credit card number for the deposit.

I received a call from Tony a few days before the schedule pick up date asking me if we could push out the date a day or two to accommodate another customer also needing to move during the same timeframe. I said I was concerned with the timeframe and asked how many guys they would be sending me because my stuff is heavy and it's going to take a while to load everything. Tony told me he would have 3 guys there to load the truck. I let him know I was ok with the date being pushed out 1 day, but not 2. Unfortunately, that didn't seem to matter, because the truck and the movers didn't show up until the morning of 4/25/08.

I was mortified at what had shown up. It wasn't what you would imagine to be a moving truck, it wasn't an 18 wheeler truck and trailer like you see all the time, or like on their website, no it was more like a dirty beaten up old horse trailer being pulled behind some smaller truck. Also, at this point I noticed there were only 2 guys, (not 3 like Tony had said) and both of who were totally exhausted from driving all night and not sleeping. One of the guys was an older gentleman, with a bad back and after seeing my furniture decided they needed more help so proceeded to try and track down an extra laborer from day labor place. So much for the professional movers they claim to provide.

It took most of the morning trying to locate extra help but they did in fact locate another worker to lend a hand. Halfway thru the loading process I was informed that my stuff was bigger than they had estimated and were running out of cubic space on the truck, not only was it getting really close on not being able to fit all my stuff, but they would need to charge me more (almost double) even though nothing on my inventory list had changed. The promise of as long as your inventory does not change was not holding true any more. Right about at this point I also noticed that they had stop using the moving blankets to wrap my stuff and questioned it. After all, this was included in the contract, all of my items were suppose to be protected with the moving blankets.

They indicated they had run out of moving blankets but that what they had (shrink wrap) would be fine until they got the stuff back to the warehouse and at that point they would be sure to wrap my belongings much better with more blankets before putting the items into storage so that my property would be safeguarded.

Well let's just say that NEVER happened. Now what happened at the storage facility I can not say because I was not there. But the belongings were not treated with any sort of care or protection. Almost every item they touched was damaged. (I do have photos)

I was told to give them five days notice when I wanted to have my stuff delivered. I called on 5/16/08 to schedule and was told to put it writing and email it. So I put an email together and sent if off requesting a delivery date of 5/22/08.

After several follow up phone calls my stuff was finally delivered on 5/29/08. (a week later) Again only 2 guys showed up (the same 2 guys, one with the bad back) and again they were exhausted and hadn't slept, or at least the older gentleman hadn't. This time instead of recruiting help from a day labor place, they solicited help from a 13 year old neighborhood boy named Billy. I would imagine there is some sort of law against this. It's no wonder, nor any surprise that my contents were damaged the way they were. Poor Billy had a hard time with one of the couches and dropped his side, breaking the wood frame on one side. I can only imagine the shenanigans going on at the storage facilities after seeing what they do in front of customers.

The boxes coming off the truck were beaten up, crushed in, and filthy. The only reason why stuff in the boxes was not damaged is because I myself wrapped and secured the items in them. God only knows what would of happened if I left the packing to them. The furniture that had not been wrapped in blankets at the pick up location never did get re-wrapped at the warehouse; they showed up at the delivery location the same way. I am extremely disappointed and frustrated that I chose to have Meyers handle my move. Now almost everything that I own is damaged. I do not have the money to replace what I have worked so hard to obtain in the first place.

On top of all this, they will not even pay me my. 60 (cents) per pound (whoopee that might buy me a new couch) for the damage they have caused.

I would urge anyone and everyone to do your research before hiring any moving company and please whatever you do, DO NOT HIRE MEYERS VAN LINES!!! DON'T LET ANYONE YOU KNOW HIRE MEYERS VAN LINES!!!
