Complaint / Review
Hearst Corporation/Redbook Magazine And Other Magazines
Deceptive billing practices, erroneous payment requests, threatening letters

Harrassment form the Hearst Corporationn is beginnig to take place in my home. Constant calls which I ignore and letters (waste of trees to boot) of a threatening nature seem to be appearing in my mailbox and I know I've done nothing wrong except ordered a magazine which was for a ONE YEAR subscription. NOTHING on the order form said I agree to keep being harrassed for more years of a subscription. I paid immediately for the subscript and because of the amount of mail and calls I get, I am NOT wanting to EVER order another magazine from this company ever again.

I wonder how they are able to get away with harrassing and threatening people. What is happening is, they make it sound like you owe them money or something is past due. Or like you agreed to more and more years of subscriptions... Even if you have not and read all the fine print. When you call or write to them, they ignore you. This should be illegal. Here is a recent letter (with my answers in capital letters enclosed in parenthisis):

When you ordered your subscription of Redbook, you requested that we bill you (NO I DID NOT). Attached is your statement showing the amount due (NOTHING IS DUE). Prompt payment will assue continuous service of your magazine (I DO NOT WANT CONTINUOUS SERVICE OF THIS MAGAZINE).

If you have already sent payment, please disregard this notice. Otherwise, please place your check and the invoice below in the enclosed envelope and drop it into the nearest mailbox.

Thank you in advance for your prompt attention.

Sincerely GL Valk, Vice President.

I call for someone to start a class action lawsuit. I am sure a million older people who get easily confused have been bilked out of their hard earned money by these deceptive practices.
