First I want to say that I have given every chance possible to this breeder to work with me (help me help the dog) and she has not responded to any of my emails since I picked Luna up at the airport the end of Aug.
I saw a 10 month old pup on puppyfind dot com where Teri has about 20 older pups for sale. I loved her beautiful face and black long coat. So I wrote and asked all the right questions and decided I wanted to buy her. Teri was so sweet, such a christian woman with so much in common with me (so I thought).
I paid for the dog in full and she called me a few days later to tell me that she went into the puppy room and found Luna (I named her) with a litter of puppies. HUH??? 10 month old mommy, she had to have been bred at 8 months old!
She had told me she had NO idea Luna was even pregnant. HUH??? Trust me I KNOW if she was to even look at her she would know.
What could I do, I paid for her already. I agreed to wait until they were weaned, no longer than 6 weeks. Six weeks came and went and during this time I wanted more pictures of her and of her babies. Legally, those were my pups since I did buy her before she gave birth. I just wanted to see them.
I never got any pictures of Luna during this 3 month period, or the pups and I never saw her have them for sale on her site or puppyfind. I asked her and she never answered. I talked to her husband and he said they gave them away. I am NOT that stupid..
Luna is a cockapoo and the daddy was a schnauzer, or so she says. She said she had them in a cage together and did not think he could get her pg and had no idea she went into heat. Hmmmmmm.
Anyhow, I wrote her and asked when she would ship, she said it was to hot. I told her continental ships no matter the temp as they are kept cool. And she just kept making excuses. I finally told her either she send the dog or give me my money back. I KNEW she spent that money the second I gave it to her.
So that a fire and she made arrangements, but get this. I did not hear from her until the morning Luna was to be shipped!!! And I had to call her to find out if she had her booked or not.
Her husband said he had to shave her because she was so matted! She had a gorgeous coat in the original pictures I saw of her. When she arrived her black coat was so short I could see skin! And she was so very thin I could see her ribs, back bone, and hip bones. I am still trying to get weight on her. SHe goes to the vet tomorrow.
I picked her up at 10:00pm that night at the airport in Seattle And she was terrified, and soaking wet. I could not get her to come out. So I drove home, and once home I opened her crate and she would not come out she was cowering in the corner.
I have had her almost 2 weeks and this dog has NEVER been socialized ever. She is 13 months old, afraid of everything, fridge, drawers, doors, people, noises, the first time she saw the TV she barked and cowered and jumped back.
She is afraid to eat with my other dogs and will only eat in her crate. She will poop and pee in the house even though the door is open to the back yard and I try to go out with her but she just follows me around.
She is so attached to me that when I leave the room she freaks out. So one night I took her into the bathroom with me while I showered. This dog has never even been in a bathroom! She jumped back when I opened a drawer and getting in and out of the shower. She even jumped back when she saw the shower curtain and of course when the toilet flushed!
I have dealt with unsocialized pups and dogs before in my business and I know one when I see one. She will never be "normal".. But I am sure going to try hard to help her with her fears. I don't think she has ever been petted. She is now getting used to me petting her, but first several times I tried she cowered down in fear!
If I have to pick her up she cowers and pees herself. People, this is not normal behavior. I will post and update tomorrow after we see the vet. She was not given heart worm prevention so I have to have her tested for that. She is from NC where it is a problem.
She said she vaccinated her several times and de-wormed but I do not believe it after hearing from another person who bought a pup from her, it had parvo. He made it only to find out he had dysplasia and just had to have surgery on his hip, at 6 months! I believe that buyer will be posting her own complaint as well here.
People, there is no excuse for the lack of care these dogs and pups are getting. As far as I can tell they are all in a room in her home, some in cages, some not and that her house smells of poop and pee. This is what I heard from someone who was at her home.
I bought from her because she had wonderful reviews on puppyfind and because I thought she was trustworthy. I had no idea. I can assure you I will never buy an older pup or dog from anyone online again unless they are close and i can go to their home and meet the dogs and parents and see where they sleep.
I write this to warn people, do not make the same mistake. Check references, call their vet. There are good breeders out there and it can be very safe to buy online. I have had several wonderful experiences. However, this is a horror story for this poor dog. And me as well for the many hours, days, months I will have to put into her to make her somewhat normal. It breaks my heart, angers me and saddens me deeply. How can anyone treat an animal like this.
