Sears sells dehumidifiers to keep moisture down in you basement which should stop toxic mold growth. Despite hundreds of complaints on the product (70 pt dehumidifier) from customers on their website, they continue to sell these products which are extremely poor quality and dont work. They refuse to stand behind their products and the damage that they can do to your health and to your home. I own this $250 dehumidifier and the whole 2 years (summers only) i had it plugged in (so about 10 months total), it said on and made noise so i assumed it was working. Mold started growing in the basement so i assumed that i needed 2 dehumidifiers, i went out last week and got another which was removing water like crazy into its bucket. The first one i had draining into the basement floor. To make a long story short, i discovered that the one draining into the floor was not actually collecting water from the air even though it said on and was running. All these months i had a dehumidifier humming away and never removing any water! Now i have to replace 2000 sf of insulation and throw out many personal belongings, have the basement professionally cleaned and face health problems from excessive mold exposure all because of sears and their shoddy product. I read the comments on the sears.com after all this to see what others had said, sure enough, others had reported it being on all the time and never removing water. Pretty deceptive. I contacted about 6 people finally making my way up to the corporate office who would not do anything and said the comments on their site were not considered valid by them b/c they had not been verified (i wonder why, that would actually mean being concerned with your customers feedback and health in this case) they did offer to come and see the mold and charge me for the visit! These people are evil and should be sued. Ag, ma
