In their sales circular that came out in the Sunday newspaper on December 8, they were offering an Accessory Pack for the PlayStation 2 for $19.99, regularly $49.99, if you bought the PS2 console for $199.99.
Since every other store was selling the consoles for $200, this was the best incentive being offered. I went to the store on the afternoon of the 9th to purchase these as a Christmas gift. However, they had already sold out of the accessory packs, even though there were probably 30 consoles stacked up, and weren't expecting any more.
I called other stores in the area, but they were all sold out too. I called their 800 number and the person told me I should go back to the store and ask the manager for a rain check.
On December 10th I went back to the store and asked the manager for a rain check. I wouldn't quite say he was rude, but he was definitely not friendly or helpful! He told me that -
1) The person I talked with on the phone didn't know what they were talking about
2) They were not ordering any more accessory packs
3) They printed in the ad that they have the right to limit quantities
4) They DO NOT issue rain checks for ANYTHING!
I left the manager, and everyone else within earshot, with a number of expletives as I stormed out of the store.
NO WHERE on this ad did it say that quantities were limited! NO WHERE on this ad did it say "no rain checks"!
Buried in the middle of their fine print it does say "We reserve the right to limit quantites". However, that means if I want to buy 100 of something, they can say that I can only buy 10.
I'm never going to buy anything from CompUSA again!
I am filing a Deceptive Trade complaint with the Texas Attorney General and possibly the US AG also.
