Forcing Employees To Take On More Than One Person's Duties

I was hired in January as the Assistant Manager of a kiosk and was very hopeful of starting a great career. I had gotten along with the store manager very well. She was very knowledgeable. Since this position wasn't the only one I held at the time, I quickly got wore out and exhausted. So, I asked to step down to a part time associate, because I loved what I was doing. I was told no. So, I ignorantly agreed to lessen my hours, take a benefits cut, but still remain as the assistant manager.

The store manager's husband found a much better job out of town, so she then resigned leaving myself and two associates still needing guidance, and one who had another job/school. I was somewhat offered the store manager position and turned it down due to the other job I had payed much more at part time hours.

I had a feeling right away that our regional manager was in no hurry to find a replacement for her anytime soon, so I called, and called, and called until finally I called and told our regional that I am stepping down immediately and I am not doing any manajerial duties anymore.

I asked if it were possible to be compensated for the time that I was playing store manager and of course the answer was no. A flat no. It was put to me that it was my responsibility as the assistant to run the store at minimal pay until a store manager was found. I turned in my two week's notice of resignation two days ago. If the store goes down, it's not my problem anymore.
