I recently took a job in North Carolina which required me to move from South Carolina. I found a house and needed a moving company so I got bids from several, but apparently chose the wrong one. I untimately hired TransAmerican Van lines who contracted out to CEH. Had I known my move was going to be contracted out I would have chose a different company to begin with but I did have little time to cancel and go with another company at that point, so we scheduled a pick up date of June 25 which was going to be the next time I had available to go back to SC to supervise the move.
I got off work and drove back down to SC to be there in the morning when the movers were scheduled to arrive. I hadn't heard from Jacobi until about 3 PM who was calling to confirm the pick up for the next day!!! That was simply not going to work since I had to be back in NC for work and had other things scheduled to be set up, turned on, etc. I asked her at that point if I needed to get another mover and she said no they would be able to reschedule and deliver quickly. We then decided to have them come out to pick up on the 3rd of July and they would drop it off on the 5th which was going to be my next opportunity to be back in SC. So again I got off work and made the 4 hour drive to SC to be there for the movers to show up and this is where it started to get ridiculous. I got a call from Jacobi at 2PM saying the movers were hung up at the previous drop off but would be on their way and get there within their estimated window. That was irritating but ok. I then get a call 4PM stating the movers were on the way but stuck in traffic. That was even understandable due to the holiday weekend, so I didn't lose my mind at that point either. I get a call at 5PM stating the movers were still stuck in traffic so I asked at that point do I need to hire someone else or reschedule once again? I was told no they were on their way and it would not take them long to pack up everything so I can get out of there. Wrong wrong wrong!!! I get a call at 7PM saying the movers were ten minutes away and they did not finally arrive until 9PM!!! At that time they had nothing but a truck, a driver, and 3 cracked out looking employees. Of course they were not going to be able to move my four bedroom house, or anything else at that hour without any boxes for the few things that needed packing. So again we had to reschedule. They were now going to pick up the day they were to drop off my items and deliver them the next day.
It is now a month and a half later and I still do not have my belongings. I have three children who need their items, our washer and dryer are going to be on overload when they do arrive since we have been in this house since the middle of June!!! Whenever I do hear from Jacobi it is to make threats and tell me I am sending them cash and they will send me a key to the storage facility my belongings are in and at that point I can go get them. I have contacted the police in the area I live in now as well as the magistrates office, the BBB, the group that oversees moving companies to which I found out this company does not have authority to do moves, is not listed, etc...
Basically now we are tracking down the storage facilities to locate where my stuff is so we can determine which police agency can go have them deliver them to my house under police escort!!! I am a widowed mother of three children and my husbands items are being held hostage by a company that would prefer to treat you like they do not care, it's your fault, your delima, and they could care less!!! This is far from customer service. The company I hired does nothing but refer you back to CEH. I have heard they are your movers you have to deal with them more times than I care to mention at this point. I have never been treated like this during a move, and I do move about every two years. This is the worst experience I have been through during a move and I haven't even gotten my items back yet to even check the condition!!! It really is maddening but definitely taught me that for the next move I will be renting a POD.
